Hello, My name is Evan.
I'm new to the forum but not new to the explorer community. However, I bought a 1998 Explorer today... and one issue it had was when you turn the heater on, you can hear it blowing but you can't feel any air coming from any of the vents. I've researched and I've come up with the blower motor, but found out the symptoms are usually some whining. Mine never whines.

Any input as to what this could be?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You!

If you hear the blower motor running it is not that, i would say you have a door or vacuum problem which doesnt allow the vents to works.

Any suggestions as to how to track it down?

Thank You

I was wrong, It blew from the defrost vents.

I believe I tracked it down... I think I found my Vacuum leak!

Can anybody tell me what this black ball thing is called (Mounted to the inner Fender), and where to buy another?
Thanks.

i would think that would be a salvage yard part. or you could try repairing the one you have with JB Weld or some other type epoxy product.

Thank You. I will try repairing it. if that doesn't work I'll try the junk yards. Explorers are pretty scarce at those places in my area, though. Worth a shot!

you could also try a fiberglass repair kit the kind that comes with the glass cloth and resin it would conform to the contours of the ball. you would have to build up the layers while the resin was still wet. follow the kits directions its pretty simple.

Or, you could spend about 15.00 getting one from a forum vendor. We have 2 forum vendors which deal in used explorer parts. A repair will be a waste of time and money in the long run.

In case you didn't read the link I provided, I will take the time to type this again---

It is called a vacuum reservoir.

Try sending a private message to Ped5stang, or Kbabiak. They are our forum vendors for used parts.

No need to be an ass. In case you didn't read my earlier post,

Read my link
I did, That's how I found the Ball

As I said, I read the link. I searched for "Vacuum Reservoir" even on google. I couldn't find anything relating to what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the user names, I'll check them out.

Evan, I wasn't being an ass. You asked things which had already been covered.

By the way, good to know you are sill alive. You used to email me all the time, what gives?

Hey Jon. I was wondering where you'd gone. I've had 2 explorers since we used to talk. I've had a total of 22 cars since we have talked. Lol. I flip them, pretty much. I bought the current Explorer to flip but Honestly I think it's a keeper. It's a 98 XLT 4X4 with 99K miles. Super clean. Only thing wrong is the heater. I got it for $2,600..

How have you been? Where's the Mounty?

Here's the current:

All fixed. Works great! Got the ball for $3 at the wrecking yard.
Thanks
