'98 Explorer - Where To Get Trans Case Shift Motor 'adaptor' for Towing ?

Yes there are 5 speed sohc in sport, sport trac, and ranger
Rare in the sport trac but they do exist
More common in the ranger 2000-2011 are all sohc if the 4.0 option.

97 sohc truck uses 5r55e not the 4r55e

The a4ld lost its vacuum modulator and kick down cable became the 4r44 and 4r55 then eventually the 5r55e

All of these are 4 speeds the 5r simply uses 1gear and overdrive to create a false 2nd gear
Scary!
All of them derived from the c3 auto that came in the pinto lol lol

Whereas the 4r70w in our 5.0 trucks came from the old aod then aode and aodew aka the 4r70w.
Available in f250 and expeditions the 4r is a much stronger automatic lol
also, forgive my ignorance, but the 4r44 and 5r44, did those ever come behind the explorers? i thought that was reserved for 3.0 rangers or the like? i feel like i seen a ranger with 5r55w, were they all 5r55e? didnt look under to see the case & tail shaft housing though

and hey to the average joe, its got 1 more (false) speed!

PCM generally controls the trans. The GEM has purview over the transfer case/4x4.

Any codes stored?
I recall reading about a Body Control Module, would that be the same as the GEM on a 98 Ex?

Off topic on the 4R70W/AOD, It has its roots in an early 1960's Ford transmission, The "X" that was discontinued after a few years.

Yeah, same idea, different name.

The thought of a carb on a 4.0 with a C4 transmission is pretty painful. I couldn't afford the fuel if it was a daily driver and unless you had tall gears in the axles it would be right lane only on the Freeway.

why's that? is it because its a 3 (or was it 2?) speed? or does it not have TC lockup

No overdrive.

No overdrive and no lockup.

3 speed!

Good for desert racing which is where all the carbed 4.0 and c4 auto setups run

Yes the 5r44e was in the explorer 1995 and 1996 behind the pushrod 4.0

The 4r is found in 4
Banger and 3.0 rangers from like 98-2002
Or something then they all went 5r
Don’t quote me on that I am still new to rangers lol lol believe it or not
