Hie guys
I am a Ford enthusiast and new to this site. I have just purchased a 1998 Ford explorer with a timing chain problem. Can someone please tell me the position of the crank and cam shafts. There are no timing marks and i do not know how to do it. Please help.

Hi and welcome
If you do a search for threads by cjmedina and 2000StreetRod they both have detailed threads on replacing the chains and tensioners etc
Essentially the timing should be set by putting the engine at cylinder #1 Top dead centre. This is done using the marks on the edge of the harmonic balancer pulley. the cam is then set with the slots at one end parallel to the head face. If you check out the 2 threads i mentioned above there are lots of photos and ideas on how to do this without the proper timing tools.
