98 mountineer

Im a soldier in the US ARMY and am deployed to Iraq right now and I have always been a Dodge fan and have had a few lifted off road machines a 81 dodge ram 50 with 18' of lift and 47'tall super swampers also a dodge dakota 91 with 8'lift and 33'tall mgx all terrains just to name a few and i drove a 96 explorer off in some trails honestly some kiddy ones but i loved the way it handeled and just felt like a off road god of a truck so i went out and bought a 98 merc mountineer. Ive put some stuff on it already small lift shakels in the back and pulled up the torrsion bars in the frunt after fixing the toe and camber on the frunt it gave a total of 4 1/2' lift, and i cut the fenders and put flares on it but can still only fit 34' X 13 1/2 wide under with slight rubbage on the flares and with the spacers was able to take care of the frame but as always i want more and feel that the torrsion bar is way to weak now with independt suspession I've never messed with ive been looking for kits online but cant find any and I think everything under there is just way too weak and dont want to face future problems so if any one know of any i would apriceate it thnx im looking to fit 40+ tall and i have solid rear end on it wich will only need some springs and shakels with shoks and shafts to easy but need some advice on the frunt end my email is whylilb@yahoo.com

if you wanna get really into it you could do a solid axle swap in the front end. could lift it after that, itll be much stronger than the independent suspension as well. Its a costly and difficult but the guys who have done it seem to like it

If including the height he gained with the 34" tires, then maybe 4.5" is right. But definitely not ONLY the torsion bars.

I really hope it was a typo of somesort and he meant Dakota...... the Durango's didn't start until 98. (as a come-back to the Ford Explorer I assume)

sorry about the typo on the durango its a dakota that i had and yes i do have pics but currently im in iraq so when i get back ill post all of them from the ram to the mountineer any advice on the indepent suspension?

Hmm, a 40" tire and IFS will not play well together. Especially with the V8 weight and power.

The dixon brothers long travel kit will allow 35's, but for that much $$ you could swap a solid axle in and fit larger tires yet
