I searched through the forum and found where if you remove the metal clip from the plastic part in the hub,it will lock it into full time 4x4.Well I did that and still no 4x4.Is it possible there are parts missing from my hub? Does anyone have a picture what it should look like after the 2 white plastic parts are removed? What I see is the end of the axle, flush to the back side of the hub.The axles turn when put in 4x4 but the wheels do not.Totally frustrated.

EDIT: Here are the parts that can be removed.Outside cover, rubber dust cover(cup),2 white plastic things and a spring. That's it.

Do you have a link to the thread? And are we talking auto hubs, or manual?

<edit> Oh, it's a 98, it's neither.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks.Yeah..a 98 :thumbdwn: not manual, vac I think. Pretty sure I got the link from this forum though.

EDIT: I just ordered the manual hubs for it. After further reading and investigation,it seems that most likely,it's vaccum issue....that I don't wish to deal with. It's the wife's truck and I need it to work when it's needed.

I have seen it some where you can convert your pvh axles to manual. There are kit you can buy and I think they are around $150, it is added onto your vacuum hub. You could always convert it to all time hub with 2001 or newer Ranger front axles for 97 or newer Explorer or Moutaineer.

Thanks guys.....I went this route http://baseline4x4.com/proddetail.asp?prod=15001.70 the only other place that I could find that carries them, was out of stock/backorder. $176.90 shipped seemed fair.Hopefully it corrects the problem..or the wife will strangle me. I don't want to change axels and get too involved as I don't have a garage, only a carport and the vehicle can't be down for any extended amount of time. It's also single digits here...so a quick fix is in order.:D

Those are the kit I saw awhile ago. I hope it work out for you. If it doesn't write me and I maybe able to help out fellow Ranger with my old axles.:D

LOL....job is done and all is well in Fordland:D What a simple job to swap out the old PVA with manual hubs....20 minutes total time, both sides  The wife is happier than ..... well you know.I may get lucky too! Thanks for the help, oldman_gamer

Good to hear!
