i have a 4x4 98 sport w/the stock tires on there (275 75 R16 or something like that, i dont remember off the top of my head, but they are the 16" rims.) i dont want to put taller tires on there, but i want wider. does anyone know how wide i can go before i get rubbing or bad performance or something?

thanks in advance

I have a 33x12.5x15 on my 98 sport. but i also have a 3 inch body lift and TT. Are you stock hight? I woulg guess the widest you could to out be 10.5 inches if your stock.

Jim, That FAQ is old, there are suspension lifts out for the newer models, and we do the Warrior shackles.

yeah, i know, but he said STOCK...shackles and susp lift is modified to some extent NOT STOCK

ok, cool, thanks guys. yeah, im totally stock and have no intentions of lifting this truck (but i might buy my sisters xlt and lift that one.) so it looks like 10.5 is as wide as i can go. does anyone by chance know the conversion to go from english to metric units on tires? i know 1" = 2.54 cm but the conversion dont seem right.

thanks

i know how to convert metric to standard size.

here it is:

235/75/15

235mm=tread width
75=aspect ratio of sidewall to ground from rim or to top of tire
15=15 inch rim

now the fun part

235X.75=176.25x2=352.5/25.4=13.88+15=

28.88 inch tall tire

you can always go here for metric conversion.

http://4lo.com

Click on "Metric Tire"

235/75R16 is 29.9"

You probably have a 255/70R16 which is 30.1"

Another thing to take in account is that tire sizes use the section width as the width given..31X10.5R15(this does not apply to metric sizing). The tread width is what you should be concerned with. A 31X10.5 has an 8.5" tread width(BFG KO). That's about as wide as I would go. Anything wider than that is going to rub. It all depends on what tire you choose. Your stock rims will limit your tire's width in the long run.

wow, that 4lo.com was a great site. thanks everyone for your help.
