Well I started off getting this gem for only $450 and needed a clutch, rear main seal, and new vavle cover gaskets; and it even came with the clutch kit.

To begin with, its a 1992 4.0L obviously and is a stick shift and what I believe is 195,000 miles could be 100k less or 100k more, who knows; only thing I know is that it doesn't have the typical lifter tick.

Costs to get it where it is:
$450 explorer
$60 Flywheel
$65 Slave cylinder w/ throw out bearing
$14 Rear main seal
Labor FREE
+_________
$589 this far for a running and driving explorer that don't look too bad.

PLANS: for now til things change

Fix body:
-Rockers are gone so I will be cutting them flush with the bottom of the door and weld in 2x2x0.125 or 2x3x0.125
-Put new drivers door on; found one at the junkyard that matches for $50 and a center counsel cushion for $8
Other than that the body is pretty good less a small rust hole by the gas door.
-I found some older clear corners in the garage and some chrome headlight bezels

Suspension:
-I found some axles out of an early bronco a D44 which I will have to convert to discs and a matching rear Ford 9" so I won't have to do gears right away. I am picking them up Sunday
-I will be buying EB 5.5" super flex coils from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard
-2wd S10 springs for the back with a SOA, hopefully all works out with the S10 springs because I have only heard that they can be used for decent amount of lilft.

Tires:
I want to do 37" MT/R's depending on how far the axle sits under the wheel wells I am not sure whether or not to do 12.50's or 10.50's

Body Lift: If need be I may do a body lift to clear the tires but I doubt I will have to do that.

Exhaust:
I will looking to get headers, and probably a flowmaster muffler.

That is where I sit right now.

I would do .188 wall tubing minimum under the doors. I also would not do them flush with the bottom of the door. Hang it out a bit to help protect the doors.

MTRs are going to be hard to find in 37 10.50s cause they never made them.

Oops I meant the smallest width of the tires 12.50, I never had a set of tires over 33's and I just cruised along writing this build and didn't proofread lol

Since you're gonna be cutting rocker off anyway, go a bit higher and get the bottom edge of the door too. Its easy and gives alot of extra clearance. Check out the last page or two of my rebuild thread.

Cool project. :)

Well the axles fell through, they weren't worth the price. So off to better things like full widths from a 78-79 bronco.

I just picked up some axles. I am going full width D44 out of a 79 F150 with a 9in in the back they have the stock 3.55 gearing so I hope that will be fine for a while. Now I just need to find radias arms and get some coils.

Gotta get a few more fence panels up and then I can tear into the rear axle; clean it up, get it mocked up and tack the new spring perches in place. Then fully weld them and make the axle purdy once everything is all set up.
