I'd hafta see that to beleive it.. this truck has always been at least a 10 second truck.. I remember back when I was in Hs when the truck was a year or 2 told.. I casually tested my 0-60 with a bad launch and a turn to boot and pulled a 10.. I can't do that anymore... dave seems to think its just age.. but I dont consider under 100,000 miles and less than 10 years of age "old" for a car.. so if this is old.. then these trucks sure dont last long...

if my friend will HURRY UP AND GET HERE.. I'd go out and do my video. but hes been "on the way" for like 2 hours..

btw do you have any way to record your accel? video camera and convert it to a mpeg or something?

I have no way to record anything, I can't scan my track time either b/c the scanner is on our desktop and the scanner for some reason doesn't work anymore and our desktop took a complete crap on us last week which sucked b/c I had about 700 songs on it that I didn't burn, it starts going nutz on me when I turn it on.

But consider this, out of the hundreds of members on here with 5.0's only you and knoxfan are running those times. Hell, some people with lifts on their 5.0 ect. are faster than you. Durring the sunmmer at the track one of my friends brought his Mounty to the track also (except his was awd) he ran a 16.4** which would put it right in the 8.2-8.4 second range to 60. Ours is 2wd and constantly runs 16.2** which puts it at about 8-8.2 seconds to 60. The fact that I beat a Durango R/T on two runs attest to that. He ran around a 16.3-16.5.

It is impossible for a 5.0 to be a 10 second truck, that's what the ohv Explorers run. I mean we've got 55 more hp and 63lb-ft. of extra torque, yet your saying it's a 10 second truck? Only yours:p How could a 5.0 run the same times as an ohv Explorer/Mounty as an ohv V6 Explorer/Mounty when we have all that extra power plus 3.73 gears which are a perfect match for the 5.0's torque. Everyone else on here except for you two is below the 9's.

saleen- if his tranny is slipping, that COULD make the times what they are. a slipping tranny can make for very very slow 0-60's.

im hard on mine, yall are just real easy on yours...
does it look like im easy on mine????;)

well I juts got back from the taping.. I counted it twice.. I counted a 13 both times but my friends stop watch said 10.. I used my computers clock to count. I'll put this on a video in a few.

this is on a 50 deg. day.. today.. and the truck was doing very well today.

I can't beleive any X is capable of under 10 seconds.. a truck that quick would blow my mind. I've never seen one that fast.

ive never seen one that fast
sure you have. you look at my avatar just about every day.;)

I mean in person

ok heres the vid.. its alittle badly made (I dont have a very good utility for taking vids of an analog camera and putting it in mpg)

but.. I counted this twice and I get 12 every time.. I used the analog recording to count, so this may differe a bit.

www.redplanetsolutions.net/picdump/12sec.mpg

note.. listen to the sound, dont count it by the pciture.. the picture lags..

also.. I made a wav, which seems to sound more like 10 seconds.. of course this is all difficult to do, we clocked it with a stop watch and got 10.5 or so the 2nd run, this wav and video are the 1st run.

Darkfox - there is something definitley wrong, after watching those vids, your engine doesn't sound like it revs near as fast as ours and your tach is slower. That was from a stop right? Ours accelerate a lot fast and revs faster than that.

Your flows sounded good though:D At least thats ones good point of the truck;)

hehe, oh yea, I love the sound of the flowmasters.. if you were considering an exhaust for sound.. that definatley be my recommendation. thats with the pipes that yall thought would sound like a ricer too.

the tach and the sound do match in life.. its just the video is lagged a bit.

that was with me (270-ish pounds.. I'm a ******) and a friend thats probablly 200 or so in the truck..

Maybe Ford stuck the wrong cam inside your truck by accident:D hehe.

I mean I can have five guys like I did last night and my times on gtec were still better. The older g-tecs were off by about .1-.5 seconds. But the new digital ones that my neighbor got are extremely accurate, shows the exact times we get at the track. Might want to buy one of those to measure your truck accurately. They also show everything from quarter mile and mph, how many g's you cab pull, will give you an estimate of your rwhp based on your times and weight of vehicle ect. But I think he spent over $200 for his. Pretty nifty though, measures everything about a vehicle.

Out of all the clips I've heard from www.stangnet.com and on here, I think you just made the clearest recording of an exhaust compared to others. Didn't really sound ricey at all, but get 2.5 or 3" pipes and you'll let that baby rumble like hell:D

maybe its just old and heavy.. I have a lot of stuff on it.. and its getting older.. although I dont consider this old by any means..

$200? I'll hafta wait till I get a job to get one of those.. which I'm going to be applying MORE tomorrow.. since the other place is taking their time

yeh, age would not have an effect, especially with the low mileage you have for a 97'. Before my mom sold her 97' with about 80,000 miles or so, I had it at Morroso and ran about a 16.4**. You also have the more powerful 5.0 which makes your trucks performance even stranger.

well I think it has the more powerful engine.. it has the GT-40P heads and it had the stock air box that came in the 98s.. did they change the cam or anything between these years? what if I have a 96-97 cam and a 97-98 engine? heh.. I doubt its any such thing.

I have a nice recording of my exhaust we made on accident also.. if anyone wants it I can email it to em.. its just a slow takeoff.

Yeah Darkfox, there is something not right. Watching the vid, it doesn't seem like it rev's as high as mine does. It sounds a lot like mine though. When you take off, it seems like it bogs down really low before it get's with it. Hmmmm? A friend of mine owns a race shop called Slow Pony Racing in Peoria, IL. He specializes in Mustangs. He's going to take a look at my ride and see what he can whip up. I should record my 0-60 and post it. That was pretty cool!

i will basically have to agree with what everyone else has said. seemed to take a LONG time to get through first gear.

Yeah, the shifting points sound a lot different then mine. I'll test mine here in a little bit and report back. Of course, my X seems to be running slow too. I'll report the outcome.

Darkfox, I just tested my X in regards to shifting points and MPH in my 0-60. I watched your video and it's quite a bit different than mine. If I saw it right, your ride shifts into second at 31MPH @ 4900 RPM's and 2nd to 3rd at 61MPH @ 4900 RPM's. I thinks that's pretty close? I tested mine at it came out: 1st-2nd 37MPH @ 4900 and 2nd to 3rd about 67 MPH @ 4900 RPM's. HMMMM?? That's got me thinking. Did I see the video correct?

knox, cool, glad to hear yer takin it to a guy like that.. let me know what he finds out.. and if you think he can help me perhaps.. give me his number, and I'll give em a call.. if he doesn't mind talking for a while.. I know I'm not gonna drive up to IL.

1st gear in my truck.. in general driving I have had it run as long as 10 seconds or more.. more than once I've found myself yelling "ARE YOU GOING TO SHIFT OR WHAT?" (yes I talk to my car!.. who doesnt every now and then?)

1st gear in the vid topped out at 5500 rpm or maybe just alittle shy of it. the reason it bogged at first.. well I dunno, maybe it was just a bad launch... those shift points dont seem to fluctuate a whole lot.. every time I accelerate hard like that I get the same spots. I've often just thought the reason th etruck shifted like it does is because its learned.. or tried to learn my driving style.. and is just stuck in "aggresive" mode or something.

I dont go from no pedal to full pedal in a split second.. I ease into it in a very short period.. I had one point where I was sitting still.. racing some chick in a saturn (I think she was psyching me out.. her and 3 friends in her saturn, her lane was going to merge into mine as soon as the light turned green) I punched it.. from idle to floored and I lost.. it bogged down.. so I dont do that kind of thing anymore.
