if you want something to use as a reference.. look at trolls truck hehe, he knows how to do it..
all the rest of ours are fast;) expo5.0 runs around a 14.9 at 92mph with only minor mods. My friend just ran that 15.8 with only a catback and intake, neighbors stock 02' 4.6 Explorer runs 15.7 in the quarter ect. ect.

Knoxfan - stay away from the eaton, not enough power for the money, and if I remember Explorer Express could only get a low 7 second time to 60 along with their other mods. expo5.0 would burn it with no charger, I run about 8-8.2 to 60 and 16.2 in the quarter, a charger that barley drops your time is not worth it.

I consider Vortec to be one of the best, Procharger is ok too, but I can't remember what years they sell the 5.0 charger for and even if they still sell it. Powerdyne I would stay away from as I've yet to meet someone happy with theirs.

exactly, except you shouldn't be in the 9's either, you should be around 8.5 depending on your gears. The sohc does pull strong for a V6 in the high rpms.
 






isn't the sohc faster anyway? since it has as much power only like 200 pounds less weight?

in all honesty if I didn't know the 0-60 time for the trucks, I'd assume it t obe 12 or more just by the weight of the trucks.. even with the v8, it only has 210hp at the flex.. .

as I've said 40000 times when my truck was brand new.. it pulled a 10... maybe yalls trucks are exceptionally good or something.. I dont see it possible at lal that these trucks could ever pull an 8.5 0-60.. thats like.. bordering on a cars standard time.

sohc's are only as fast as 5.0's when their in a Sport (especially with 4.10 gears). This has been debated before and in the thread with the 1/4 times - I'm runnng even faster than some sports.

Yours and knox's seem to be the only ones that are slow;) I've seen plenty at the track and 5.0's run around 16-16.4 with no problem here. I know 10 guys and a girl at school with 5.0 Ex/Mounty's and their just as fast as mine.

HP is nothing (HP only sells), it's a mathimatical number reached from torque. You could have 500hp but if you only have 200lb ft of tq your still gonna be slow.
Torque is what is important, torque is what accelerates a vehicle, thats why all the ricers are slow - they have no torque.

Why would Ford make the 5.0 accelerate to 60 in 12 seconds while the ohv V6 will do it in 10.5??? It is impossible (except with yours) for a 5.0 to run those times. How could I (along with basically everyone else) be running 8-8.2 to 60 and quarters in the 16.2 range?
We even had a rental XLT 5.0 before and it was just as quick as our Mounty.:p

Theres no way a 5.0 will accelerate slower than an Excursion or Suburban, or hell even a Navigator or Expedition - which your times say:confused:
 






well my max RW torque was rated to be some 220 or so.. I think 220.8.. I dont know, the numbers add up too well to keep thinking its slow.. I'm getting flack from my parents again for saying its below the standard.

I wont have the money to do anything about it anyway until I get ajob.. $200 wont even get the thing looked at.
 






bro, you should trade/sell that truck when you get a job, and get a new one:D

220 is kinda low, I was at a tuning shop with my firends 03' Cobra. And there was a kid there getting base-line runs done on his stock 00' 5.0 Explorer, and it averaged a little more than 240lb ft. of tq at the wheels on the three runs. He was base-lining before he did any mods to see what he would get after mods. I should have gotten his phone number and seen if he dynoed with the mods yet.

you get a readout of his HP numbers?

I can't trade it in/sell it.. its gotta be there for me for another 5 years at least I'd say

I don't remember exactly but I think his hp at the wheels was around 180-185. For some reason I remember he tq exactly:confused: , he was completley stock b/c he said he wanted to see what the gains would be after he did his mods. Thats why he was base-lining, but I didn't get his phone # - I should have b/c I wonder what he ended up doing to it.
 






SUPERCHIPS INSTALLED!!!!!!!!! An excellent buy my friends. It installed fast and easy. It really slams into gear now. 2nd gear will run up to 5600r's before it takes 3rd. It didn't do that before w/ my X. I haven't done a 0-60 yet. It's a little damp outside. Everytime I crush the pedal, all 4 of the tires spin like a *******. So far, I'm very impressed with the performance!! a must buy:)

I cannot validate doubling my gas spending for 2hp, no matter how great the gains are, if I can't run 87... unless the mileage goes WAY up.. I'd be paying considerablly more.. I already spend more than $100 a month on gas.

have I showed you my dyno sheets saleen? my best run out of 4 was 170.2 max Hp (run 3) at about 4100 rpm. max torque on this run was 220.8 also peaking at 4100. from this rpm up it was a downward spiral.

the other 3 runs showed:

1. 157.3hp 221.7 tq
2.hrmm I can't find sheet 2
4. 143.7hp 211.3 tq

odd.. theres no record here of doing a 2nd run.. OH YEA, now I remember.. he said something about the fuel governor getting in the way ad the reading being too bad to even bother printing it out.. low 100s upper 90s I think that one was.

lemme know if you want to see one of these (or all of these) and I'll try and get em on here.

btw all runs were in ther 4000-4500 rpm range at the peak power
 






2HP? What, the Superchips? The chip adds 19HP. About the gas, think about it. With a 20 gallon tank @ $1.50 a gallon. It would cost $30 to fill. Spend $0.02 more a gallon to get better fuel. Your only paying $0.40 extra. That's no big thing. And it's better on your ride.
 






you can even get a chip programmed for 87 octane that will give you far more than a 2hp gain. It wouldn't be as much of a gain, but still decent. And if the chip changes the adaptive learning strategies, it may increase economy too.

whoa, theres something wrong either internally or maybe with the cpu. 143hp is almost where an ohv V6 dynoes at (usually between 120-130hp). Your cpu could be retarding the engine for some reason - but it's highly unlikey that's the problem.

You dynoed in the right range as the 5.0 makes
awsome power between 3000-5000 rpm so.....

211tq??:eek: :eek: damn thats weak. That would put you at a little more than 250 at the flywheel using the 20% rule which isn't really accurate anyway but...damn..that sucks.

Do you know if the dyno was calibrated or not? Those numbers are way off big time.
 






didn't he say earlier in the thread that he is having transmission problems? If so that can cause low dyno numbers.

Also, did you get an air to fuel graph on the dyno pulls? If you could share those numbers, it would help look at the problem.
 






not a clue... the same dyno showed a civic that ran right after me running on 3 out of 4 cylinders a 157.2 HP run..

he had $6000 in mods tho lol so.. its ok.

I was closer to getting a chip than you'd beleive.. but right at the last minute.. I had a thought.. true you can get a chip at 87, but it wont do much at all, I dont think you can feel a HP increase of less than say.. 20 or so... and I dont think the chip would give that kind of rating at the wheels. I was going to get a chip in hope that it would help my shift points and maybe make my transmission stop acting like it has leperacy. but then it occured to me that the chips also make the transmission shift harder, which could damage it even more.. so if I wasn't getting it for the engine.. and I wasn't getting it for the transmission.. I wasn't getting it heh.

if you factor in the 20% loss on the 170 that comes out about right for a stock 5.0.. which.. lets face it.. thats what I have.. catback and filter dont count as "mods"

if I started running a hgher octane.. I'd be paying an extra .30 per gallon.. I already pay $25 for a full tank of gas once a week.. or more sometimes. gas prices are ridiculous already. It MIGHT be better for the engine.. but the engine wa sdesigned from the factory to run 87.. so putting a higher octane fuel in there may overwork the components loing term.. obviously I dont know this to be a fact.. but.. I wont be getting a chip at any rate.

my fuel to air looks like a line.. it only declines slightly in the very upper rpms... with a 17.5 max fuel/air rating
 












it has to be two things, internally in the engine or your tranny - those numbers are definitley off.

Intake and custome dual catback (w/o 2" pipes;) ) is easily worth 10 or so rwhp and tq. Look at my friend who ran a 15.8 while mine is stock at 16.2.

I'm thinking it has to be your trans b/c in your video you accelerated and sounded basically as if I were to start off my moms 5.0 Mounty in 2nd gear. And it sounded weird when it shifted.:confused:
 












I dont understand what you mean.. those are the sheets, they're plenty large enough on my screen to read.
