99 5.0 Upgrades

maybe cos I have 2" duals?

I may need to clean my kkm alittle too, I usually try and clean it once a year.. is that not often enough? it looks clean right now, I mean I tough it and theres little to no stuff on my hand.

hehe, we warned you about the 2" duals:D ;) No joke, they could be holding you back - but not enough to affect your acceleration that much. The 5.0's take in a lot of air and exhaust a lot of air very fast. 5.0's with duals should have between 2.5 and 3" pipes, not really that much bigger than 2" pipes but it sounds meaner/louder and is better for performance.

But still your pipes wouldn't really affect your truck that bad, actually with those pipes you should have a little more low-rpm torque than when stock b/c of the back pressure in 2" pipes.
 






Saleen: I actually put higher octain in to stop the knocking noises. It wasn't bad but....... Also, my programmer will be here tomorrow!!!!! So, I need the good gas before I programed it. I think that DF1 w/ duals would hurt the truck more than anything. Because not enough backpressure???? Am I wrong there?

duals on a 5.0 are better, people seem to think that you'll lose back pressure but your not, if anything you'll only lose a few ft-lb. at low rpms that aren't noticeable anyway b/c of the huge amount of torque the 5.0 makes. One of my friends is running dual 3" pipes on his 98' Explorer 5.0 and I can't tell a difference - if he lost anything it's not noticeable b/c it's stronger all through the rpm band. Plus it sounds mean as **** with dual 3" pipes, he put a few mustangs to shame;)

Those Hypertecs are nice - good luck with it.
 






well I'm not re-doing the exhaust until something screws up.. like a clogged cat or a hole in the muffler or something..

actually.. I wont be able to do anything till I GET A JOB AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH I'm going nuts. NO ONE is hiring here. I can't even begin to fix my truck until I have a steady income
 






I'll update everyone when I install it tomorrow. Today I took out my stock air box and used a 3" hole saw and made two more holes in it. I also took out the gay flap that resrticts all the air as well. It sounds way the hell different, and ir runs pretty damn good too. I can tell a pretty alright change in the shifting. The programmer is the key ingredient now:D

stick a K&N filter in the swiss-cheese air-box and you'll notice a little more power but a lot better response. Do you have an exhaust or anything else yet? You might not see a big improvment with just the hypertec, like a chip, they work better with mods.
Get a dual cat-back, the K&n filter in your air-box, maybe some FMS headers, and use the Hypertec with those and you'll see very nice gains. Now go shove an
e-303 cam in there;) :p
 






The mods I've done are pretty useless(kinda) I have the K&N, Magnaflow muffler w/21/2 out, and that's pretty much it. Does a swiss cheese airbox count? I'll know friday about the head porting work. How much does the cam cost?
 






I left that flap thing in there.. it seems to be protecting some wires.

no, I wish. I WOULD share the wealth. honestly. I think it just exchanges your stock program w/ the new. If it does, maybe we can work something out! How do i stop these damn replies from going to my yahoo mail?

flap thing?? You mean the air-silencer? It does nothing but, well, block air and make the intake quieter.

What is the perfect set-up to do this.(reasonable budget-I have a mortgage) I basically want to pull up to redlights and hand people their ass. I can work the #'s in. I just need to know what to do.

Well, if you want fast but nothing expensive like a supercharger, you could use dome NOS. If your on a budget, I would get the FMS headers, K&N filter in the swiss-cheese air box, a e-303 cam which will give awsome low end to high end, and the Hypertec programer to bring it all together:D You would esily be running around high 14's to low 15's, most likely I would estimate it around 14.9 or so.

expo5.0 has bascially those mods and runs around a 14.9 at 92mph, pretty damn fast with no power adder on a mildly moddified Explorer.

With the cam you might want new roller rockers like 1.8 or something - I'm having a brainfart on that though righ now:confused:

a very fast X? well I dont see how thats possible really uh.. if you have a good bit of money you can do it.. but theres nothing really cheap that does the job :(

if you want something to use as a reference.. look at trolls truck hehe, he knows how to do it..
 






I've been looking online here over the past half an hour. I may just put it on the bottle? I probably have to change my injectors too, but hey. I could have the power when I need it. Yah know. Would the stock system handle this?

Wow...I thought my SOHC running low 9s was bad :eek: Something is seriously wrong DarkFox. When the truck is actually in gear, does it seem to accelerate pretty hard? It seems like to me your MAF is dirty and needs to be cleaned. I know this sounds stupid, but are your spark plugs all firing? There are so many simple things to check, but trust me, losing to a Saturn and a Cavalier is NOT normal. I eat Saturns for lunch in my SOHC.

Hell I hung with a 5-speed Mustang GT because he spun like a ****. Now before you guys call BS...he would pull 2 cars on me, then shift and bog a bit, and i'd catch up. The SOHC is a beast when it hits high RPM. The 5.0 Litre should be even better than my truck.
