im considering swapping my 4.0 5 speed 2wd for a 5.0 aod 4x4, how difficult is it to put in a front axle into a 2wd? it looks like the mounting brackets are already there but what all parts do i need to do it right??

i have the following parts

302 with explorer intake, (no wiring)
4wd aod with t-case (i dont know what model, both came out of a 94 fi50
explorer motor mounts, accessory drives (alt, pwr steering, ac comp)

what else do i need?? by the way this is a sport, if that makes a difference

i kinda need a parts list.....

Push button tcase or a floor tcase?

302 in sports have been done, and theres a few threads on that, and the (floor) tcase swap has been done, there are threads on that as well. You hsould be able to find parts lists in the corresponding threads.

Not to sure about the whole throwing a front axle under the front of a 2wd though, I know people have talked about it, but don't ever remember seeing a thread with it actually done.

Good luck!

thanx and yea its a floor t case, yea i just want a 4x4 soooo bad, i want to lift it and throw on some 33s, but first i want to get 4x4 working in it, i just didnt know if the front axle would be a bolt in, or if it would be better to stay 2wd

What is the engine out of?

Wiring harness , PCM,GEM module, Pats module, ignition switch , key reciever and key from same year explorer as the engine. PATS, PCM, keys and transponder MUST be from same vehicle.

4r70w explorer 4x4 transmission from same year ( f150 trans "might work" however these are computer controlled so it is iffy)
4406 transfer case for selectable 4x4 operation. Shifter for transfer case
(electric 4406 may not fit into sport)

front diff with all brackets(must match rear gear ratio)

4x4 front knuckles-
4x4 cv axles-
4x4 hubs w ABS sensor
4x4 brake disc rotors
front drive shaft to match transfer case

There might be a few parts I am missing, but this will get your down the right path.

If you have the 94 F-150 t-case that is a 1356 and believe that it's been covered that its too big to fit within the space under an ex especially a sport....you're best to get a 4R70W so you can swap in the BW4406 manual shift because even that is going to require you to modify the gas tank some to get it fit up in. It's been done and covered before as far as swapping in an Explorer 5.0 so that info you can find here as well as swapping in a BW4406. For 4wd and the swap it would be best to find an wrecked 5.0 awd Ex, doesn't need to engine if you have the right one but at least you would have the trans and front end parts for 4X4.

cool and the engine is out of an ex so i have the front drive, motor mounts, etc. but no wiring whatsoever, i have a 2wd 5.0 tht has been rolled but im trying to get it to work in my 77 f150, lol i do have an extra 5.0 lying around, lol it came out of an ex i jus need computer and wiring, sensors..... the 94 f`150 tranny is an extra p0art as well, i just want to make my own 4x4 beast
