I have a stock 99 explorer and I am having a shifting problem. A couple times a week I have the issue. Otherwise it drive fine daily both to and from work and pulling a small trailer. I can start and the trans will start in 1st just fine. It will then shift from 1st to 2nd just fine. When it is supposed to shift from 2nd to 3rd it instead it tries to shift back into 1st. The engine revs high and since I am going too fast it will fully engage. I can manually shift back into 2nd, but going into Drive will not go into 3rd. At this point, from a stop I can sometimes manually go from 1 to 2 and then into D and it will work again. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I have also tried stopping the car and shutting it off, and then it normally works.
Has anyone seen this problem before? If so is there a simple fix for it. I have tried changing atf and filter and it cleared it for maybe a month. A few months ago I found an online article that said something about one of the sylenoids accessable when the pan was off could be adjusted to correct it. Unfortunately I can't find the page again. It said which one to adjust and which way it needed to be adjusted.
Any suggestions????
