I have been overhauling my 99 Explorer for the past 6 months and I am to the point of the rear braking system. I am going to replace calipers, rotors, pads, shoes, and all of the springs and other components of the parking brake. My question is I have seen people replace all the springs and shoes with out removing the axle shaft but that seems to be the hard way to do it (less work but more tedious). What would it take to remove the axle shaft and replace the springs and shoes and then put it back in? I know I would have to remove the diff cover and all the fluid would come out but I am going to replace that anyways. How hard is it to remove the shaft from the diff and pull it out far enough to get the springs in with ease? Also last question, Does anyone know the part # at the local parts store for the springs and other components for the parking brake? On my 86 bronco 2 it was just a rear brake rebuild kit and it was only like $10. Thanks!
