99 Explorer reverse is park neutral is drive

I have a 99 Explorer 2wd yesterday , out of the blue something happened to the transmission , suddenly the reverse became park , neutral became drive , and all the rest work fine , also the od light stop working it wont come on at all
what could be the problem ?

Sounds like your linkage is out of whack. With the truck turned off, I would have someone move the gear selector while looking at the lever on the side of the transmission and see if it's screwed up somehow.

You might have 2 issues going on.

First, verify if the truck is actually shifting into overdrive. You should see 2000-2200 Rpm's at 65mph

Several things can cause the non responsive od light.

First, make sure the dome light dimmer isn't switched off. ( this dims the od light to invisible level during daylight)

The od switch on the end of the shift lever does fail--


There is a small thumb wheel to adjust the shift position indicator--sometimes this will break , causing the indicator to malfunction
 






2004 Transmission Indicator

I have a 2004 Explorer, Auto ntransmission.
The shift indicator does not line up with the gear the tranny is in. Caan someone help with describing the fix.
