Hello all,

I am new here so I hope this is the right section for this topic.

I recently got an oil change and transmission fluid flush. After about 500 miles of driving in town with new fluids, I had to go out of town. After cruising at the highway speed limit for a while ( ~ 45mins - 1 hour), I took my explorer to 110mph. I stayed at 110 for about 20 secs and then car kind of yanked. Road was dead empty - I would not have done it otherwise.

I hope "yank" thats the right term.

It did it once and I slowed down immediately. Now it does it at any speed randomly. I notice that it does it when it tries to shift but I may be wrong.

When it happens, car feels like engine is choking but there is no change in the rpm gauge also the O/D light never comes on. I do not think taking it to 110 was not something it was able to handle. I broke something definitely but I am having hard time isolating what it is. Engine sounds good, no lights. The choking, yanking, shaking etc effect seems to occur mostly when I let go off the gas and car tries to downshift. In addition, sometimes when I go up to 45 and start cruising, it happens too. I think thats when car tries to upshift for cruising but can't? I am still unable to isolate the behavior occurrence. It s a 4.0 V6 4 door 99 explorer.

Any ideas what it might be ?

Thank you all

On my 94 models, 110 is when the speed limiter engages. First time I hit the limiter I thought I broke something, a "yank" is the right term!

If the flush was done by a shop, they may have added too much or not enough fluid. Check the fluid level. It might even be a good idea to pull the trans pan and check yourself if they properly changed the filter. I had one Explorer where I found a shattered trans filter because a shop had overtightened it.

Also check for codes. Usually Autozone can pull codes from you (if you get an intelligent associate), or you can buy a good basic OBD-II code reader for about $60.

Thank you for your reply.

I did take it to Auto Zone and it did not put out any errors.

Fluid is a bit much. Do you think that might be the problem ?

In addition, I think the problem occurs when I am going at the same speed. If I am accelerating or slowing down, yanking never occurs. However, if I am on a straight and smooth road and put the cruise control on, it yanks often.
