Hey guys,
I've been reading through the archives about towing and it's generated a question or two.
I have a 97 XLT 5.0 AWD. How do I know if it has a towing package? Is there a door code or something else I can look up. The truck does have 3.73's and a factory installed second tranny cooler.
I have already added a Reese 5k hitch and found the electrical connector for the adapter when I was installing the hitch. I'll check the dealer for an adapter.
I plan on using the X to haul my stang to the track every now and then. Car will weight about 3100-3200 pounds race weight and no driver and the trailer about 1000. So all looks okay there.
My only remaining concerns is the brakes. All 4 wheels have recently been done, but the Explorer brakes just never did feel great. Do you guys feel that an electronic brake controller is manditory?
Thanks,
Ed
