does it get any cooler on the highway?

Look under the hood where the heater hoses go into the firewall. You will find a black plastic cross connector there with a vacuum line going to it. When a vacuum is present on that line, the hot coolant is bypassed from the heater core. I believe this same control vacuum also opens (or closes, I forget) a door to admit outside air.

Anyway, moving the control lever from OFF to MAX A/C should operate that bypass, which you should be able to see under the cross connector bypass valve.

I had this problem and ultimately traced it to a hole worn in the stiff plastic vacuum line that operates the bypass valve.

Anyway, quick and dirty fix is to take the vacuum diaphragm off the bypass valve and manually move the valve to bypass the heater core. This will make the air colder. But, if you find and fix the vacuum leak, you will get both colder air and more airflow (due to the air source door I mentioned). At 108 degrees, I... well, I melt at about 110 degrees. Good Luck!

yes thats the heater control valve. i just put a brand new one in and it works properly.

no it doesnt really change. it blows kinda cool like 70s with the temp gun tester. but i cant seem to get it cooler. its consistent but not cooling like its supposed to. im thinking i may have a clogged line or orifice tube or something. =-(

70's doesn't sound too far off. They say, generally, that if you can achieve a 20* difference between the outside temp, and what your a/c is able to blow, that you're doing alright. It is, after all, 108* that you're contending with.

yes i hear that but it doesn't even remotely begin to cool the inside of the car. i cant even use it cause it doesn't get cool enough, my wife has a 2001 toyota taco and the ac blows ice cold even in 108+ degrees. I understand its a bit newer but my ac used to be the same and after replacing the bad ac compressor it has never worked the same. that last compressor worked amazing (until its untimely demise). im just gonna try a system flush in a few weeks when i have time and see what happens ill keep yall posted. if that dont work im gonna bite the bullet and just take it to an ac specialist so they can rape my wallet xD

I hope its a clogged orifice tube or something. 3 dollar part ftw. we will see =-)

When you changed compressor

1) Did you match up its oil with the same oil as was in the old one?

2) What was the reason for changing it out?

3) If it blew up did you also flush all your lines / evaporator / condenser / filter and also change out the dryer / accumulator? Changing it out is a must do any time you open the system up and expose it to ambient air for any length of time as it over loads the dryer in it.

4) Did you check out / change the orifice tube? Could be plugged or part way plugged depending on contamination and reason for replacing the compressor in the first place

Any of the above will make an A/C blow warm or even hot to not at all.

Also last point did you use a set a gauges to fill it back up or did you just use the cheap can hose or gauge on can set up? See if done this way you have no idea if your pressures on the high side are right or not.

Also how was it vacuumed down and kept sealed under vacuum tell you had it filled with R134a Freon?

Did you ever find a fix for this problem?

I'm having the AC blow cool - definitely not cold

Today was pretty humid out so I turned on the AC and it never got cold all the way home. It was only about 70 degrees outside so my AC should have felt ice cold after having it turned up while driving on the highway.

I tried different settings - tried the heat ( it works )

Any ideas?

Repairs done recently:
About 3 weeks ago I got a "Service Engine Soon" light - Code was PO125
Temp gauge was showing Cold all the time.
I replaced the sensor and the thermostat.
Temp gauge now shows normal.
Only odd thing is it stays on Cold for the first few min or so of driving before the needle moves to the middle (this may be normal)

May sound stupid, but did you put in the right refrigerant?

I repaired this issue by adding R134 freon
