Just looking for some operation info for my A/C. This is a 2010 xlt explorer with manual climate controls. This is actually the first vehicle I've owed in the past 12+ yrs where the A/C actually works good. Learned to live without A/C for long time but it's nice to have it now.

What I was wondering about is the difference between the MAX A/C and the regular A/C which just recycles the air. I've noticed when it's set to MAX A/C it cools nicely and cycles on and off as it's suppose. But if I turn the MAX A/C off and just use the regular A/C it gets really super cold and I don't think the compressor actual cycles in this mode I maybe wrong not really up on A/C system.

My question is using MAX A/C is more effecient then using the normal A/C according to the owner's manual. When would one use the regular A/C instead of the MAX A/C I wasn't real clear on this. I was thinking when you first start up the vehicle when it's really hot out you use the regular A/C then switch it over to the MAX A/C or is there a better way to operate the A/C

TIA

I think your method is correct.

My understanding is that on Max AC, the cabin air is recirculated and cooled again to give colder output. Regular AC brings in fresh air and cools it. That's why they say to use regular AC if it's very hot inside the cabin because it will bring in outside air, which will already be cooler than the cabin air and will cool down the cabin quicker. Then you can either switch to Max or stay with the regular AC.

As far as cycling the compressor, I always thought it would cycle as needed to cool the cabin down to the setting you've selected and to maintain that temp. You might want to experiment by changing the temp selector to see if it's cycling correctly while on Max and on Regular AC. I think the Max and Regular is more of an air ducting function than compressor cycling. But I'm just an owner, not an AC tech.

thanks for the info hadn't thought about adjusting the temp control will try that and see what happens. just nice to have a working A/C unit :)

Note whether to use Max or not may depend. If you've got into a fairly warm/hot vehicle. if its still cooler outside as it can be the majority of times if parked in the sun. Max is going to be attempting to cool much hotter air. It should be obvious but opening doors and/or windows before turning the AC on will cut down on the job to get you cool. Getting the hot air out first!! If you are already driving lower the windows to blow the hot air out if you can stand the oven getting in. I wait in the driveway or parking spot and reach in after starting to lower the windows standing by my open door for the heat to escape. If you have black seats of leather. They ought to have burn warning!! If you dare to sit down especially wearing shorts you'll know what I mean in a second.

Some auto climate systems push the blower to High, I don't like that but you can override that speed if you study your options.

Even on a 2007 with manual controls setting the AC to Max will speed up the fan.

Yea I noticed that right away did a recharge this morning and it's working great and we got a big heat wave coming this weekend!

Oh well, its not meant to be running in that mode full time I am sure.

The standard, official, certified time that you use Max A/C is when you see a dead skunk in the road ahead of you.
