Having an issue with my A/C and was hoping someone might be able to lend some advice as to what needs fixed, replaced, etc.

The A/C is currently blowing out hot air. Hooked a pressure gauge up to it per the directions of the kit, and the needle only got as high as the blue range, indication normal pressure and no need to add coolant.

However, the compressor will only turn on for about 1 second at a time, goes off for about 10 seconds, then does another one second turn and so on....

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this or perhaps what should be tested next in order to diagnose the problem?

thanks all.... :chug:

Classic low charge situation, and why thestupid little gauges they sell wth kits are worthless. Your charge is low. Read the thread of rechargng your AC A to Z on here, and add a can.

my ac pump doesnt click in at all whats up wit that??? The little light that indicates ac is on goes on but nothing happens.

Well I put the 14oz can of r-134 in and it got nice and icy cool on max...but then 2 days later it was much more mild again. Put half of a smaller can in (that's all it would take) and again it got nice and cold, but then the next day didn't seem to be working with the same ice power it was the day before. That's not to say it was warm, but at the same time, I would think with adding that much coolant I would see better results.

Though there doesn't appear to be one visible, is it safe to say I have a leak somewhere in the system?

sure sounds like you have a leak. you can goto autozone and buy one of those UV leak detector kits. u put the dye into your system then run the system and look at it under a blacklight. it will glow where you have the leak, that way you can replace whatever component is leaking (be sure to have the system recovered before you do so)
