When I had my wheels rebalanced today we found that new pads were needed on the front and new discs and pads on the back.

The o/s/r outer pad was missing and the disc was very badly grooved!

The garage have quoted me 200.00 incl parts and labour to do the lot. Does this seem a fair price?

Thanks

Keith?

it seem a good price, but if it was me i was going to order performance rotors and pads and do the job by myself.

pretty strait forward job for everybody.

Doesn't sound bad at all to me - especially if they can find the parts!

I had new discs and pads all round a few months ago and parts & labour came to £465.

The first garage to quote me said none of their suppliers could find the parts but the estimate totalled somewhere between 700-800!!! That was an AA Autocentre (nee Lex/Nationwide centre).

The cheap discs/pads I got do squeal a bit now and then (light pressure when they've been used a bit) so I'd recommend trying to get some better make if possible (depending on price).

Hope this helps
Steve

edited due to poor memory - thought I'd got my own discs & pads off ebay but it was the handbrake shoes I got from there!!!

That seems to be a very cheap price for all that work. I hope that parts are of good quality and last for a reasonable time. Last time I changed all mine I put powerslot rotors and Hawk performance pads all round. They have now done some 30,000 miles and still have about 30% wear left in the pads and the disc's no signs of wear at all. The stopping power increased quite dramatically too.

It's not a bad price at all if it really does include labour. Make sure you get a cast iron guarantee on the price as they may not realise that removing the rear discs is not always as easy as it should be. Be sure to test the hand (parking) brake after the work has been done as the shoes can be tricky to set. Mind you, it should be OK as long as you don't take it to a Ford dealer...

However, if you fancy the DIY route you might like to look at this: CLICK HERE and this: CLICK HERE. All the parts you need for £88 inc P&P...

Hope this helps,

Hi - checked with the garage and yep that includes labour all within the price. They're aware that the time may be extended due to setting up the inboard pads for the handbrake but the chap there said it was all included!

Fingers crossed for Monday when the work is being done. Will report back!

Seems reasonable - we've just been quoted £180 to replace the front disks and pads and £40 to replace the rear pads by Kwk-Fit.

SWMBOAAC forgot to ask about the handbrake - which is a pain as ours doesn't work - period.

I like the idea of fitting performace discs though.....

I tried my local Kwik Fit and they said they couldn't source either pads or discs and no, I couldn't supply my own for them to fit!

Update

Job done! Total bill 199.73 incl parts. labour and vat for new pads front and rear plus new discs at rear.

They apparently have two suppliers and rarely have problems getting hold of things. They ordered the parts on Thursday and they arrived on Friday.

I've used Chadwell Tyres in Grays for many years for all of the cars my wife and I have had and they are really good blokes.

If it's of any use to anyone their number is 01375 399990 - happy to recommend them!

Keith
