After putting some work into the beast over the weekend, I seem to still be having some code issues that I was hoping the experts here might be able to advise me on. Don't know the exact numbers so please bear with me.

301/306 - Saying it is detecting misfires on Cylinders 1&6. With short time on Saturday my friend and I only changed the plugs but not the wires. Could it be as simple as just changing the wires, or are we going to find it is something more significant?

402 - Saying my EGR flow is excessive. After replacing the PCV valve on Saturday along with the plugs AND cleaning and recharging the air filter the truck is certainly running better, but still has some chop to it. Based on experiences others have had, is this code (and the problem) going to be fixed by replacing the EGR valve or will there be a lot more to it?

thanks...as always you guys rock!

try changing the wires...do the maintenance repairs first, which is seems you need, and then see how it is

thanks...

figured the changing of the wires was a given...but wondering what we might have to do or what we might be getting ourselves into in terms of the EGR valve and related items.

Egr

I think your system uses a DPFE sensor to monitor EGR flow, the sensor could be bad, the EGR could be bad, or it could be as simple as the EGR clogged with carbon. Simply removing the EGR and cleaning it may solve the problem, you will know if it is clogged when you remove it and the valve will be stuck open. Not 100% sure its the same system on your 97 but hope this helps out a bit:thumbsup:
