I have not one, but 2, very bizzare stories to share.
Well, as you all know, the Pats won the Superbowl. Because I live on campus Northeastern University in the center of Boston, I saw first hand the repercutions that meant to us Bostonians.
Right after the game, we all dashed out of our apartments and various parties in joy. This being our first victory, and one of the best games of all time, things got rowdy very quickly. Within minutes a crowd of at least 5000 blocked of the street I lived on.
People stood on cars, girls flashed, and the chants ranged from "P-A-T-S, pats, pats, pats" to "Flip the car, flip the car." And they did just that.
The first car was a Toyota Celica, badly caved in because of about 10 people who have stood on it. It was fliped into a makshift bonfire in the middle of the street. The police came, flipped it back over, and quickly found themselves baing outnumbered, not by hostle rioters, but people hugging and shaking their hands.
We cheered the fire department when they came. People climed on the ladder truck, and patty-wagons. They quickly evacuated and set up a perimiter. Up until this point, i was taping everything, but my batteries died.
Next came a kid, obviously high, trying to get help to flip his 94 XLT! He said it was insured, and it was already dented from people standing on it. The crowd quickly found that it is, ideed, HARDER to flip an explorer then a car! But finally managed to do so. At this point some kid climbing on the pumper firetruck trying to put out another bon fire (in a road filled with 5 story wood-beamed brick buildings), fliped a lever and emptied the tank... into the crowd. As it was about 20 degrees and windy, that was the end of the riot.
And now, my truck....
A few days after i purchased my truck (about a 10 months ago), i was driving along Rt 9. This was called the Boston Post Road, and is one of the oldest 4 lane state rutes in the contry. It had been downpouring all day, and the 1930's era dranage systems just coulden't handle it. I found myself in 2 feet of standing water stick behind a little nissan pulsar. It stalled, so i decided to venture into the right hand lane, which people were avoiding like the plauge.
45 seconds later I found myself dead in about 4 feet of watter. It was about an inch past the windows when i called AAA. Their first question was if i was blocking traffic. I told them "no, but the four foot puddle might cause a slight delay." I noticed i had JUST stared to take on water, and freaked. What would happen to my leather and electronics?!?
I lover the window just enough for me to slip out and started pushing up the off ramp onto the bridge above. I am not a big man, but somehow i did it! As soon as it was safe, i tried turning on the engine. It worked!
I spent the rest of the afternoon helping oether stuck cars out. The cops didn 't want to get dirty, i already was, so it was the thing to do. I'd say about 20 cars tried to void Noah's flood. All but 3 cars stalled. Those 3 were all fords: ex sport track, crown vic and an ex xlt. The rest of the fords that stalled started right up.
The other cars, including a jimmy and land cruiser had hydro lock.
in the end, i took it to the shop. i got a new air filter and that was that.
Hey this is a long post
hope you enjoy
