A few problems looking for suggestions?

Hi,
I'm kinda new to the board, I joined last year just to have some where to come when I had a problem with my explorer. I have a few problems and was wondering if they were norms for my '99 Explorer Sport 4.0 Auto 2wd. Or if anyone could help with them?

The first the one that caused me to come back now is that frequently in weather about 70 or above my explorer will hum loudly at idle and then go away when I would rev the engine of take off. I have heard other explorers doing this so I didn't really think anything of it. Until, on a couple of warm days we've had recently here in SC. It started to hum and when I would lightly press the gas it would hesatate. Any thoughts on whats going on?

The other problems I'm having is that my wipers have a mind of there own. They work fine with the switch, its just that they tend come on at random times when the switch is off, also the rear wiper does not work at all.

And the second is that the ABS light is on. When it came on I was crusing down the interstate at about 75mph with crusie control on when out of nowhere the truck accelerated hard for about two seconds, then the crusie cut-off and the ABS light came on. I replaced the ABS wheel sencors I though maybe had gone bad on the passenger side cause it would lock-up but it still locks-up and the ABS light is still on.

The hum is the idle air control valve. Easy to fix urself, about 50 bucks at the parts store.

The multifunction switch on the steering column is the problem on your wipers. There is a recall on 99's for that exact problem - the dealer should replace the switch for free. It's a recall, so it does not expire, and they will do it even if you are not the original owner.

If your right front passenger wheel locks up when you hit the brake, then thats a brake problem - pads, rotor, or caliper.

If you mean the abs engages on that wheel when you hit the brakes, and your pedal vibrates, thats different. You could have a wheel bearing going bad, a bad abs sensor ring on that wheel, or an abs circuit problem on that wheel. Since you replaced the sensor, and you are still having a problem, you may want to have the abs code read at a shop so you know whether its giving you an electrical circuit code or a sensor fault code ( wheel bearing, sensor ring).
