Hello all. So im rebuilding a a4ld from a 1990 4.0 ranger and tear down went fine. Upon finding it melted and needing replacement anyway i got a new One Way Clutch according to the sales guy it is a new type that does not use the snap ring which was not in the tranny to begin with. it has a bronze ring before and after the sprag clutch. the problem im having is once i start putting in parts the tail shaft snap ring grove is not quite to where it needs to be when the planetary gear is installed in the rear drum. is it because it is a different design and no longer uses one of the rings or am i totally off base in my process. any help would be great ive tried all kinds of ideas to get the proper setup. thnx peeps

Welcome to this forum! The installation of the rear snap ring is one of the most difficult parts of the rebuilding process. It's easier if you could have somebody push the shaft in the direction of the transmission while you install the snap ring.
