One Way to Save a First Gen: A4LD to 5R55E Swap (Completed)

This method hasn't been used by Russell for a long time in these swaps owing to its overcomplicated and wiring heavy install.

for those of you looking to upgrade your old beat up a4ld there is this way, to piggyback computers, which I like very much!
But there is also another technique, to rebuild the a4ld using 4r44 and 5r55e parts.......
There are some good threads on this

I like this thread because I may need to piggyback PCM's on one of the projects I am working on :)

Not saying it's not still incredibly useful in some situations, but I don't think Russell still supports this modification anymore.

Sorry to change the subject, but a quick question...

Can the Rotunda adapter, be used as a stand alone extension for the computer? These are much cheaper then a custom Extension.

Appreciate it.

OK, ya'll ready for an update? :D

First of all, I just fixed all the pictures in this thread. For whatever reason, Facebook changed how their links work, but I was able to correct it until next time lol

Second, the trans is still doing fine! (Aside from a pan leak, but thats not fault of the swap itself). Tcc lockup still happens, it still shifts perfectly, mileage is still SLIGHTLY higher overall. It feels very factory and that was my goal. Havent had a single trans code pop up ever (and I check to make sure the light does work) and I can say without a doubt, best mod i have ever done. I really need someone else to do this swap so I can compare notes and consider building these harnesses for retail use...just a thought...
well, this has been a hell of a read, 12 years later. I want to swap a 5r into a 94 from a 00 mazda with the 4.0 ohv, simple trans and pcm swap. Don't know which of the two sound like more work lol. also, a lot of the pics are missing again, if possible to fix...

Converting any 94 to be obd2 is a great upgrade! You will need the pcm pats
Module and key tumbler from that 2000

If you can get OHV motor to run off the SOHC PCM, I have a complete system minus the wiring. Out of a early 2001. PCM, keys, door locks PATS module. Let me know if you're interested
