A4LD Problems ??

Some shift kits come with different hardware. The length of the rod, spool and spring are different from one to another. Keep the parts consistent. Not every kit has a spring. Glacier991 would have more information on the specific hardware in each brand of shift kit.

I wasn't putting a shift kit in. I just was replacing the modulator. I put it back together just the way it came apart. ( no spring )

Mr Lieth. What are the pins to the right of the modulator pics? I replaced my modulator and just put it in without noticing the pins in your pics, but the new modulator easily slipped in! All gears are smooth shifting EXCEPT going from 2nd to 3rd it will Rev High then shift. Any thoughts guys?

Welcome to this forum! The pins that you see are the essential parts related to the modulator. The one on the right is the spool. The one on the left is the actuator pin which goes into the modulator.

I'd double check to make sure that the actuator pin didn't fall out when you removed the old modulator. When I removed mine the pin stayed in the modulator. You have to put it into the new one. As for the spool that probably wouldn't fall out on it's own. I pulled mine out with needle nose pliers.(Just to check it out) be careful you don't scratch the bore up.
My modulator also has a adjustment screw. ( I didn't have to mess with it ) But if yours does maybe you might need to adjust it a little.
I'd check for the pin first though if it was me.

Thanks for your input Leith. I think there are three types of accumulator and I didn't have any problem with the 2 to 3 shift (high rev) until i replaced the accumulator with the new one. maybe the TV cable? I just don't see it when all i did was change filter and vaccuum accumulator. Should I buy the adjustable one? When I took the old one out nothing else came out (pin). thank you

a4ld crappiest tranny ever

I just rebuilt my 94 tranny for the 3rd time. It was shifting badly and they found metal bits in the fluid. Planetary gear damaged and whatever else -
$1500Cdn and I got deal because its my 3rd go round. Damned lousy tranny.
