Before I begin, I want everyone to know I have really learned from these forums and appreciate the knowledge on here. But I have a 1990 Ranger, 2.9 V6 with the A4LD trans. I rebuilt the trans a few years back. Last year it wouldnt shift into overdrive unless I let off the gas and then it would shift. After a few weeks of that it began to do the same thing going from 2-3 without going into overdrive very often. Sometimes it would other times it wouldn't. Then my wife was driving it home and she stopped at a stop sign and when she pulled away it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear. I let it sit for the winter and am working on it now. I changed the filter and fluid, which smelled burnt, and it will shift into 2nd sometimes after the rpms get up to about 3000. I am thinking governor or valve body but am not sure. Any suggestions? Please I have to get it fixed. Its hard for my wife to get to work with one vehicle as I have to use the car to get to my job.
