Hello
I have a newly overhauled jasper trans that was installed in my truck and then the flexplate shattered. I have pics to share if anyone wants to see. I plan on replacing the torque converter for good measure with a proking. I noticed that when I tilted the transmission tailshaft up, trans oil drips out of the pump seal. I haven't disassembled the bellhousing yet. I only took off the torque converter. Is this seepage normal? How can I test this seal to see if its good? Thank you

The front seal has to seal on the converter hub to hold oil, if you remove the converter and tilt the transmission up, oil that is just sitting behind the seal will pour over the lip of the seal. I would consider that to be expected.

The only way to test the seal is to reassemble everything and start the engine and if the transmission is full of fluid and not leaking, its good.

update

So, I decided to bite the bullet and disassembled the pump. I cannot believe what I found. The seal was mildly warped but the bushing is what surprised me. It looked totally trashed;it was very rough with spots of the bushing gone. Overall, the color was of a dull grey. I thought it was. Supposed to look copper colored? Obviously, I'm having this replaced. Can I replace this myself or is a machine shop job? I have a pump alignment tool and seal installer and seal staker. I have the 2 pump cut seals too. The. Pump does not look like it has the drainback modification done. I am hesitant in drilling into the.pump to do this. Is this really a critical mod? Lastly, can I resuse the torx bolts or should I get new allen bolts? If so, what size and torque value?
