Here is the deal: I own a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3L with an A4LD. It drives and shifts fine (no grinding or slipping) but when I pull codes i get errors saying both transmission solenoids are not functioning correctly (I've checked the connections/wiring externally and everything appears alright). My concern is highway driving. I do not have a tach so I'm having a tough time determining if my transmission is going into overdrive/if its locking up correctly. My question is, if my transmission is not going into overdrive correctly (lets assume for a moment), could prolonged use at highway speeds (2-3 hours continuously) cause any damage? Will I just have crappy gas mileage? Could this create too much heat and burn up the trans fluid? I'm mostly a complete newb when it comes to transmissions so any help on this topic would be appreciated. I plan to replace the solenoids and do a valve body rebuild in a few months (when I have the garage space) but that will have to wait!

if your truck isnt shifting properly it can be damaged at highway speeds, have it checked out before damage occurs in my opinion.
