I have one spool that sticks out a little past the valve body on the same side as the reverse low Solinoid?

Also I cannot get the "L" shaped clip back in the torque converter lockup solinoid slot to hold the plug. I do not want to force the issue. What would happen if it were not in place?

I'm So close but yet so far, I just want to do it right.

if the clip is not in place the solinoid will push out you obviously wont have lock up either, umm as far as the spool sticking out i would have to see a pic but i do belive that they all have roll pins to hold the plugs in (glacier? correct me if im wrong its been a while)

It Lives!!!!

One keeper pin was missing and the torque converter spool was sticking. unstuck now and thanks to a local tranny shop, they gave me one and she is now in motion. needs one more quart to get to full, waiting for the rain to stop but we will pray for the best.

Thanks,

Glad it all worked out. You were wise to make sure it was perfect. Sticking spools are a number one problem for valve body related malfunctions.... If you have ever rebuilt an engine, you have probably experienced the "couple nuts/screws etc" leftover syndrome. So long as it wasn't a cap bolt or something, it is probably ok. NOT SO with a trannie. NO parts left over, nothing left out, especially in valve bodies. So, ya done good! Have a beer on me. Let us know how it all works now!

Spoke too soon

Now it is doing some weird things.
at first when the pressur got to where it needed to be it ran great took it on the freeway and it ranthruogh the gears great. When getting off it would jerk forward as if the torque converter would not unlock.

The tc lockup solinoid did not have the extra tab for holding it in place on the bottom side. so the only thing holding it in place would be the clip for holding orientation on the top side of the valve body.

If this flexed then the solinoid could have moved out of position, correct??

is there an after maqrket holding clip from the bottom that will hold the solinoid in place like the 3-4 solinoid??

Does this problem sound familiar to anyone?

all this happenend after it got all warmed up on the freway.

Help!!!!

let's back up a minute.... tell us what symptoms led you to do your "repairs... tell us exactly what you did... and we can ask questions from there. Otherwise its too much guesswork.

Here's what happened

I was having problems with delay in shift and not down shifting and it started to throw check engine codes.

Torque converter lockup and 3-4 shift solinoid.

So I bought replacment solinoids and went from there studying how to replace them.

I read the diary and found I have more ime than money. It was the worst coming off the freway as I was driving 75 miles one wat to work every day.

So I checked with a tranny shop without telling them what I knew and they proceeded to unplug my 3-4 shift and torque converter lockup from the tranny and I drove that way for about two days till I figured out what they had done. The problems got worse so I decided to just fix it and whatever else I could to streach the life of my A4LD.

I did get them replaced and it ran fine till above happened.

I had an old valve body from the tranny I took out last december 30th

I took that valve bnody and gave it the once over and it was in better shape as far as the spooles went they were all more free moving.

so I removed the valve body that I just put in and put the new solinoids in the old valve body. cleaned it up and put it back in.

Now it has no lag and shift is smooth. torque converter is locking corectly.

It now is running well just in time for winter.

Glacier991 you have been a huge help in almost every post I have needed help on if I could buy you a beer I would.

It is a person like you that makes this site the shiznit.

Thanks a million.
