 I wrote earlier about my horrible experience with towing a caravan. As it is Easter Holidays I have not had the possibility to leave the vehicle to the garage. There are now Cooper tyres on and I do doubt that these tyres are suitable when driving on the high road. I would like to hear about your experience with tyres on the Explorer, especially when you have been towing a trailer or a caravan. What tyres are the original on the car? I just bought the car second hand.

Being a 2000 model year explorer, there would be 2 tires sizes and one model tire. The standard tire size for the Explorer would have been a P235/75R15 with the P255/70R16 as an option (SPORT Package). The tires would have been the Firestone WILDERNESS AT tire. Being sold in Sweden, they may have been different, but I doubt it. I run Cooper DISCOVER S/T's in the winter time. They are a P235/75R15 tire. My stock tires are the P255/70R16 tire. Since I work at A Ford dealership, I drive several vehicles. I know for a fact that the Explorers with the 15" tires are more squirlly and prone to swaying that the ones with the 16" tires.

You would be better off with a L/T (light truck tire). The L/T tires will have stiffer plies and probably more plies than a P (passenger tire).

I love my BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO tires. Even if you don't go offroad, they're a great improvement over stock "car" tires.

That is what I have now, the BFG All Terain KO's. They are a major improvement over the GoodYear Wrangler HT's that were on my Mountaineer when I bought last June.
