Modifying custom tunes

Anyone with LiveLink can review your datalogs. As a matter of fact, you can download LiveLink for free from the SCT website. However, only someone with the RacerPro software package can make changes to your custom tune. If I understand your previous posts correctly, you've already received 6 tunes from your purchase of the X3. That's twice as many as is usually provided. SCT dealers are in business to make money and it sounds like they have been very generous in your case. Don't expect to get any more for free.

made a big mistake! i re-installed live link, live load back on my pc. i plugged in my xcal-2. since i only use 1 of the 3 tunes on the programmer, i was going to erase 1 and put one of the tunes i got from james. well, i clicked erase files and it erased all 3!! i put the disc that has the tunes burned on it in, but it says its not the right format or can't read it. can someone look at the tunes i got burnt on cd and send them to my e-mail in ll3 format? i have no tunes now in my device!

The SCT dealers usually keep copies of the tunes they provide to their customers. It's part of the support that's reflected in the cost of the tuner and tunes. I suggest that you give one of them a call.

yea, i kinda thought so. the tunes from james came with the programmer. but the other 3 tunes i got for free from adam. i sent adam a message and see if he can maybe help me get them back.

You should open up livelink..and read the help file.
It tells you what does what...and what you can set up for datalogging.

Well.. this isn't going to help much.."now" but in the future.
you dont have to erase a tune to add another tune.
As you have found out "erase tune" takes ALL the tunes off.

when you want to "add" a tune, just select the position/box you want the tune into and send it to the device, thus leaving the other 2 tune files intact.

On your CD..that has the tunes.. what is the file extension?

I tuned this combo many years ago, Robert Stutler started getting free tunes from other dealers and playing all the dealers against each other trying to get more and more. We all figured this out in the SCT dealer forums. He actually had me looking at datalogs from other dealers saying it was my tune. Eventually I put an electronic "signature" in the tune so I would know it was my tune and finally cut ties with him. So if this is Robert, please state the entire truth before posting here.-j

yes im running 93 octane from shell. actually, james sent me 3 tunes when i bought the programmer. i then did some data logging and had another sct dealer named adam from new york fine tune me 3 different tunes. not saying the tunes from james were no good. i could for sure notice a difference from his tunes. i just thought making some passes and data logging it would really help tunning. i made probably 10 passes and e-mailed all the data to adam. he then tuned everything and e-mailed me tunes. all this for free i might add! i talked with him on the phone for weeks. he really spent a lot of time making my tunes. i just was curious if i can change anything to get a little more.

This is the same garbage I dealt with in 2007 he actually got free tunes from several dealers and even contacted more to try to get free tunes from.

im not sure if i still have the tunes from james. i got 3 from adam in the programmer. i think i burned the 3 tunes from james on a disc. i mean im not complaing about the tunes or my explorer. it performs quite well for a mostly stock 4000 pound+ truck thats only rated at 160 hp stock. i just want to try and get the most out of it. i think i will just leave every thing where its at. at least until i do some data logging and have either james or an sct dealer look at it. i really appreciate all the info and help you gave me!
This is what he told all of us "he wanted to get the most out of it".

to adjust the tune yourself you would have to buy sct's pro racer package ($350) but unless you know what your doing you will be much better off having James make the adjustments there are things that you can adjust that could easily do some serious damage to your motor and transmission.

I mentioned he could buy a wideband and fine tune but he declined.

He didn't understand that, this is what the dealers in the SCT dealer forum were mentioning. He started playing everyone against each other. And got BUSTED!-j

Actually you have asked this question before almost 2 years ago. Nothing has changed you continue to play games, just like you did when you ordered 2 years ago. The link I posted is almost word for word from this thread.:thumbdwn:-j

ahhh I heard about this issue from several of my SCT dealer friends..
(drops the 10 foot pole and backs slowly away)

I dont mind helping people "learn"
..but I am not interested in spoonfeeding.

Jims comments here tell me that this guy isn't the least bit interested in learning, just wants to sit there and be spoonfed...for free.

Learning IS free...you should try it.

Here he is busted almost three years later-again!:D

right, i hear ya. the file extension says ll3. but when i click them, a window pops up saying the computer can't open the file. i use notepad to open them, but just a whole bunch of crazy things show up.

yea, thats a little out of my price range. especially just to make some minor adjustments. i already spent $400 for the programmer.

the 329.00 you would spend is money well spent...and IMHO your "cheaping out" on this.

When I first started tuning my cars, it was my EEC-iv Mark 8.
it cost me 1097.00 to have the ability to tune my own car.
Then when I moved to the obd2 mark 8 I had to spend another 400.00 on the X-2 to be able to tune my new vehicle, plus the 100.00 upgrade to SCT 3.0.
So, I'm about 1600.00 into my tuning solution...

and.. I'd spend that money again today in a heartbeat.

If 300.00 is out of your price range, then you should worry about other things rather than trying to cheap out on a tuning solution.

you dont want to know how much Jim Henson had to pay in order to become an SCT dealer (roughly 10 times what I had to pay).

Now consider how many 400.00 devices he'd have to sell in order to break even on his "buy in"??
.. keeping in mind that they make less than or right AT 100.00 profit on a device they sell.
THAT is alot of tuning... just to break even.

I support and stand behind the SCT dealers, they have paid their dues and deserve the respect and consideration of someone that HAS paid their dues.

If Jim sold you a device for 400.00, and if he spent 1 hour talking to you on the phone.. he's only made about a 20.00 profit.. if he talks to you a second time on the phone.. he's IN THE RED...and lost money.

For the life of me, I dont understand HOW the SCT dealers can make a living, especially in todays world where "everyone" whats something for "nothing.

why are you trying to open a .ll3 file???
you cant...as I guess you've discovered.

The LL3 format is how they keep people from STEALING and SHARING their tune files.

at this point, my best advice for you is to call SCT in florida and get their support guys on the phone..YES it's gonna cost you money, for a long distance phone call..but..
If you wanna play you're gonna HAVE to pay.."someone".

Amen brotha.

I love to help people learn..

I HAVE held both a pink and blue baby food spoon in each hand, when the person shows ANY willingness to LEARN.

But those that simply "chirp with their mouths open" like a baby bird wanting to be fed..NOW..I have to walk away.

first i never said i want any of this for free. i would pay the $50 for a tune, since i erased mine. and there was only 1 dealer that gave me tunes for free. i wasn't trying to get tunes from every sct dealer back then. i was just asking around.i would of paid if i needed to. you said if james talks to me on the phone a secong time, its for free. how hard is it to tell me a few things over the phone. i never talked to him any way. i mean $400 to get 10 horsepower. me and xlrvIII were talking here just fine. if he would of offered to make me a tune, i would of paid him. i even offered that adam back 2 years ago some money. but he said its ok.now james wants to come in here talking sh*t! i will admit maybe a couple years ago wasn't right. even though i wasn't trying to play any one. any ways that was then, this is now. im just trying to get a new tune since mine are deleted. im not asking you james any ways. even if you paid me $50 i wouldn't. you think your all that! mister know it all. adam is a hell of a lot better sct dealer than you. you need to just mind ya business and stay out of it.

Shouldn't burn bridges... my .02 cents.

you need to stop talking sh*t to! we were talking just fine before. you people think james is some god, sticking up for him. i really did appreciate your help. quit talking about crap 2 years ago. im willing to pay for a tune. i made the mistake, i'll pay for it.

adam is a hell of a lot better sct dealer than you. you need to just mind ya business and stay out of it.

if that is the case, then you should be on "adams phone" getting your issue resolved.....had you taken my advice, you wouldn't need a third party to "hold your hand" for you.

you will spend 50.00 on a tune file that you cant open??
but you wont spend 300.00 on the software that creates the tunes?

6 tunes at 50.00 and you've already spent the money the software would cost....Do you not see the flaw in this thought process?

ALSO.. I respect Jim.. greatly...and you should as well.
It's very uncool of you to come stand on his nuts in such a manner.

One of the FEW REAL SCT dealers that actually support your platform wholeheartedly and you disrespect him in such a manner?
THAT really sucks...

Call Adam, Call SCT... your free support just ended with your comment you posted above.

If you think I'm talking SH*T then add me to your ignore list....it's fairly simple.

I have given nothing but 100% true and accurate information in this thread

can you say the same? I doubt it.

I dont think James is a god.. by any means.
I have never used a henson tune, I've never used a henson product.
(so you cant say I'm one of hensons cronies or any fabricated BS like you just insinuated)

BUT.. I am not too stupid to see that he does a great job at supporting the explorer community and I give him the respect he deserves based on that fact.

Your burning bridges left and right...you might want to "check your attitude" sir.
