I'm pulling a front Diff, and both CV axles, maybe a trailer hitch, and the heater core shut off valve from a 2nd gen. I doubt i'll find a AWD drive shaft there but if i do then what size are the bolts on both ends? I'm already going to be stuck taking in my 2 ton floor jack because i don't have a smaller one, but they have wheel barrows to use, and cherry pickers. I'm still wanting to take as little tools as possible. I'm taking a 1 gallon ziplock in my pocket to put all the bolts in too.

Tools so far i'm going to include are:
Small and large Vice grips
long and short phillips and flat head screw drivers
10mm 6 and 12 point sockets and wrenches
tin snips (can be used for ALOT of things.. including getting that pesky wiring out of your way lol)
2ft 1/2" Drive breaker bar, and maybe a 3ft piece of pipe to use as a cheater.

And then whatever else tools i need specifically for the removal of the parts i need. I'm not going untill monday so if anyone remembers what size sockets and ect they used i'd greatly appreciate it.

Add to that a Sawzall, and a BFH ;)

The sawzall would be nice, but I think most u-pull-it's don't allow cutting tools.; both for safety reasons, and to stop people from damaging good parts.

Don't forget, you'll probably need to disconnect most of the front suspension, to get the cv's out; so plan on tools for that too. (Ball joint/tie rod nuts,etc..) A cordless impact would be really helpful, if you have one. I would also say it's much better to err on the safe side, and bring too many tools, then to find you don't have what you need halfway through. At least load up the car/truck with everything you can. At least then, you'd only need to go out to the parking lot, instead of home.

Also, to the OP: You mentioned cutting wires for convenience. Just be considerate of others who might need a harness, or plugs w/ a decent amount of wire left. In other words, if you have to cut something, do your best to leave enough wire on either side, that it could be spliced if needed.

Possible socket sizes needed:
13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm, 20-24mm (don't remember which, but you'll need one of these) - all 1/2" drive, also whatever size the axle nut is- I think 32mm.

I would also bring these size in combination wrenches as well

ratchet and numerous length extensions

3/8" drive stuff for the driveshaft (If I remember right, 1/2" drive stuff is too "fat" and hits the yoke??)

a ball joint/tie rod separator would also be good.

If they don't already have the vehicles firm;y supported in the air, then don't forget jackstands, and something to stabilize them/spread the load (assuming it's soft ground)

Of course, you could jack up your truck, look at what is involved, and check the size/access for everything you'll need to remove. That's the best way to be SURE you have everything you need.

i wish i could just jack mine up to check all the sizes... but the only thing mine has is the Ends of both CV axles left in the spindles to save the bearings. Atleast whoever pulled all the parts before i got it DID have the common sense to do that so it didn't eat wheel bearings like a fat kid and cake.
