The dashboard ABS light illuminated on my 2000 Explorer 4x4. Any ideas of the cause or possible repair?

You could get the codes read if you have access to a scanner with ABS capabilities. That will tell you where the fault is.

Its generally one of the ABS sensors. Like drdoom said, get the codes read. Most Advance and Autozone stores can read them. That will tell you definitively what the problem is.

Thank you. I will have the codes read this weekend and post what I find...Moremole

As an alternative it may be possible to count the flashes after startup. That's how I did it on my 97. You may also read about the yellow plugs under the front seats.

Guys,

I stopped by O'Reilly Auto on the way home today and they read two trouble codes: C1102 (G Swith Circuit Failure) and C1230 (Rear Anti-Lock Brake sensor circuit Failure.

There were no possible causes available on the report they printed for me, but there were 8 Reported fixes under each code, and the first one on each was "Replace Differential Speed Sensor, DSS".

So I purchased a replacement sensor for $23 and headed home to change it out.

It was easy, I jacked the rear end up so I could sqeeze under the gas tank. One 3/8" bolt to release the sensor on top of the rear differential, and remove the electrical cable.

Started my Explorer and no more ABS light staring me in the face!

Thanks for the advice
