ABS light came on and stayed on about 3 days ago. I researched possible culprits and, without an ABS scanner to aid me, decided to replace the ABS Speed Sensor mounted on the rear diff. Cost $16 and is held in by 1 bolt. Very easy fix. And sure enough the ABS turned right off.

I also noticed that it's driving a lot better now. Shifting much better. Even shifting out of park and into reverse or drive much smoother with less resistance.

Are there any other speed sensors in the vehicle? I am tempted to replace them all now.

Looking to do this as well. Where did you get the ABS Speed Sensor from? Is it really mounted on the rear diff? I thought there are near each calipers?

There also ABS sensors on the front near each caliper as you say. I replaced these junkyard sensors but you can get both front and rear from auto parts stores.

There is the VSS but nothing else besides the ones mentioned...

So there's the ABS sensors in the front hubs.

Is there a speed sensor in the transfer case?

There is a wheel speed sensor on each front wheel and one in the rear axle

These are for the abs brakes

The one in the rear axle is also used for the vss, speed sensor to drive the speedometer, pcm speed signal, cruise control, and more

There are also speed sensors inside your auto transmission three of them iss and two oss but these are only used by the pcm to help control the auto transmission

The abs computer will tell your scanner if it has issue with one of the three speed sensors

The flashing od light would indicate a code or issue with a iss or oss sensor
