OK I dont post but lurk quite a bit and this place has been great. Now on to the problem. My AC pulley is broke it will not turn freely and is at a slight angle now. Does this require a complete compressor change or can I change the clutch only? If I can change the clutch how hard is it? Thanks.

Also what about bypassing the a/c system altogether until I have time to get in there and fix it? Would that be ok?

Yes, you can bypass the A/C pulley by simply using a shorter belt. Somewhere in the forum is the part number for the shorter belt, but the part number shown may be for the V6. Perhaps someone else has the answer and will post the PN for the V8.

Thanks. I found it after your first post. Put it on but wow, talk about close!!! About 3 pieces of paper thickness between the top idler and the water pump. Appreciate the help!!!

did an AC pulley fix on my 2005 Ranger last week, the bearing had failed and it was an easy job.
1 bolt holds the clutch disk on, then 1 snap ring holds the pulley on.
there is/may be a shim inside the clutch disk, don't loose it. and it may need adjusting with a new pulley or bearing to get the gap correct.
the bearing was pressed into the pulley, then 6 crimps held it in, I used a dremel to grind the crimps. then a hammer and punch to make new crimps.
new part is either just the bearing ($34), or pulley with bearing installed.
you didn't state what year you have, but the list of compatible vehicles for the bearing is quite long. should be easy to find one.
