i removed my ac compressor today and put a smaller belt on my motor to make up for the missing space and now my check engine light came on. i am not sure if i noticed any driving issues. is it because my computer is used to the compressor being there? does the computer need to be reset? or can you even reset the computer? if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

They are unrelated.. Smaller belt (to bypass the a/c) won't throw a CEL. Did you knock a wire off when you were doing the work?

You can pull the battery to clear the codes (or use a code reader). If it comes back you know you still have the issue. At that point you need to pull the codes.. There are instructions on how to do it by hand at the top of the eec-IV forum.
