Add a Leaf

In addition to the add-a-leaf, I also got blocks for additional lift... Is this wrong? The guy on the phone seemed to think it was a great solution...

From Summitracing.com, but I had to call to get 'em. I asked the guy on the phone what he thought a good solution would be, and he sugested the blocks.

Yeah, SGR1600, blocks will only lower your truck. Since the spring goes under the axle, blocks will place the springs even further under it. If you want more height than the aals will give you.. get some Warrior Shackles too. WAR-153 is the part number. 4WheelParts has them but you gotta call 'em.

OK, glad I sorted that out. I'm putting in an order for the warrior shackles. Thanks!

4Wheel parts has them, but does not list on the site, I had a hard time finding add a leafs on any sites. If you have a hard time getting these I can help you, I have shipped parts Germany for another member, and would be willing to do the same for you. All I did was found the price and sghipping then the guy sent to me and I did the rest, I do not want anything for helping, just enjoy helping others.

Wow, how helpful is that :D Thanks, I may well take you up on that - I will give it another go, if not I will mail you. Alec said the double add a leafs are about $75, but I cannot find anymore than that at the moment.

So I've been looking at the rear of my truck, and it looks like the passenger side is like .5"-1" higher than the drivers side... both have the shackles and aal, but one side looks higher, im perplexed  . Anyone have nay idea why this is? I mean it looks like the drivers side just settled more than the passengers, but I'm just wondering why??

When you put the add a leaf, and warriors on just swap your springs from side to side. The drivers side takes more weight, between driver, and gas tank, causes it to sag a little.

OK guys... heres a new case for you...

I have 98 Explorer sport

Just put on 4 Door leaf springs (off 2001)

Have warrior shackles installed

Also put on Rancho 9000X all around

Have 2 subs in rear

My ??: It looks awesome... took care of the sag and i have a nice lift going on there... My rear sits maybe .5" higher than the front but i have a feeling it'll settle and might eventually go lower than the front again..

I want to get add-a-leafs for the rear to lift it a little higher before i get my new tires (P265/75R16 Deulers).

Would i be crazy getting the DOuble AAL's or should i just get the single? Im afraid it'll settle over time but i dont knw if the doubles will be too much.

BTW: When i put on the leaf packs i had to lift the springs up to my axel to put te UBolts on- But they touched the axel before lifting up the truck.

part number

Hello,
Does anybody know the part number for the double add a leaf? Just wondering

Also, how hard are they to install?

Thanks
John

do a search for DOUBLE ALL

The part number is EXP-13135. I posted a thread just for the reason of giving out the part number easily.

I dont think they will be any harder to install than the single AAL. I havent done it yet, but plan on it soon.

Another thing i like is the center bolt that comes with the leaves is 3/8" -- the single leaves come with a thinnr bolt and that raised a lot of controversy over their safety.

Ill post another thread if i have any trouble installing it, but i believe RangerX did it and had no problems.

Feel free to PM or email me with any questions, ill be glad to answer any. But remember, theres a lot of info on this site- i found a lot about AAL's just by searches.

wondering

Sorry for this probably silly question, but why not install 2 single aal instead of 1 double aal? Is that possible?

Not possible. Thats been covered in many threads also. I dont know the exact reason it wont work- but an obvious problem is two leaves cant be the same size.

**im sure someones going to ask this now too so ill say it now: yes its possible to get two different size AAL's and theoretically it will work the same as the double kit... but thats not reccomended and its just safer to stick with a kit. (for the extra $30 of a kit, id rather go that route- remember these hold your truck up!! its worth the few extra bucks to do it right!! is saving $30 worth putting yourself at risk :nono: )

Thanks a lot - think that I will be doing this next week. SPRING BREAK!!!!

FYI

the double kit has to be special ordered and takes about a month to arrive. the single leaves only take a few days before they arrive though.

which do you recommend? I have a '93 4 door and the leaves are rather tired (my front is higher than my back....) anyway thanks for telling me

and, is there anywhere I could purchase them from a store? Any chains or a place that would be located in or around Pasadena, CA?

Thanks

Do you have warrior shackles? and what kind of lift are you attemtping to achieve? those are kind of important..

either way i would go with the double leaf kit. especially if your leaves are worn out the single leaf may not add any lift, and if it does it'll then wear out within a year.

if you dont have the shackles yet i would suggest getting them first if you just want to even out the front and the back. they'll give you about 1.5" lift in the rear. and then once your leaves start sagging again go with the double leaf kit.

If you want some serious lift for offroading or something i would say do the warrior shackles AND double AAL and if possible, buy newer leaf packs. (<---thats just whati would do, you should deffinetally search more on the subject and get information from someone with more experience than me)

i don't really want shackels. for the amount of lift, I think that I want between 2 and 2.5 inches.

Thanks
John

Okay so here's the scoop, Matt Adams and I take the leaf pack off my X today to install the Explorer Pro Comp 13120 add a leafs on my truck today right...

Well after we finally get it out of the truck and get that damn bolt off the spring pack we find out that the hole in the add a leafs is to small... Now, it did come with 4 bolts that I don't have a clue what the hell they're for... Do they expect me to use that skinny ass bolt to hold my leaf pack together instead??? Seems way to long, and way to skinny, seems like it would allow my other leafs to move around way to much... We tried drilling out the hole in the add a leaf, but that is some tough ass metal...

So what did you all do to get around this problem???
