adding nav to the explorer

Just an update, I bought the steering wheel switch and popped it in, everything works perfectly now. The phone button answers and ends a call no problem. Completely hands-free! I didn't have to re-wire anything either. In fact, the switch only took about two minutes to swap, I didn't even have to dis-connect the airbag. I guess since I already had Sync is why nothing had to be re-wired. So I guess this project is finally over, I hope the info helps someone else.

Although I still have problems with it recognizing when I say "phone"

I was told for sync to work I would not only need the Steering wheel switch but a wiring modification. Who knows how to do that and what is it. Thanks

Hi Mike, I am reading this thread again but I have to admit that my memory is pretty rusty. I lost my 2008 in a car crash back in August 2012. So then I bought a 2010 model with nav already included, so I haven't had to think about it. Unfortunately, the only thing I remember is that the wiring mod involved the wires under the center console, there is some sort of SYNC equipment in there. I would just search these forums like a maniac, that's what I remember doing. You'll find the answer, I'm sure of it.
