Does anyone know where you can get a kit to mount CD/Mp3 changers in your center console - specifically for a 2004 Explorer? Thanks

I mounted mine under the cargo area where the jack is. I also don't have the third seat option if that helps.

You might be on the lookout for a Ford Phatbox. It's a Phatbox which takes the factory Ford connector plug. I just found one on Ebay, they are basically hard drives that hold MP3's and Wav files. The Phatbox is slightly smaller than the CD changer. I will try to put mine in my quarter panel. They retail for $700+, but used are about half of that, when you find one. Good luck,

Thanks for the tips. I already purchased a bundle of Audio equipment on Ebay. So I will probably just search for places to mount the Mp3 Changer. Under the back seat is a good idea since I will want it accessible. I may explorer console to see what I can do. I used to be good at car stereo installs but I think I may be about 5 years past my prime.

Thanks all!

all I did was use some velcro strips.. put a couple pieces on the changer, then mounted it into the console. Haven't had any real problems so far. And it doesn't bounce around, and seems to be holding quite well.

Mounting Problems

One thing I have noticed is the difference in mounting space between the 2001-2003 to the 2004. There is no room under the 2nd row seating and under the front seats is tight as well. I have DVD and TV tuner going in - tough mounts!!!!!!

I am going to brave the console and see how it turns out. I should be able to fix something up and make it look good (on the surface anyways).

I put an eclipse 8 cd changer in the console. I removed the underside, just used an L-bracket on the bottom end, took the "brains" form the underside and velcroed them to the side for clearance. Made a grey "flush top" for the top of it, and it has worked beautifully. So, it can be done.
The easiest are the SONY ES SEries 6 cd changers because they are tiny!
