hey i just mounted fog lights under the bumper of my 97 explorer sport but i had a few questions on the wiring. is there anyway to wire them to the factory headlight switch so i dont have to put another switch in the dash? also, how should i go about doing this, and would it cause an excessive load?

Use the relay switch wire from your new lights wire harness and splice it to the factory fog light wire.

Some people opt to connect them to the parking light circuit so that the fogs are on with parking lamps and both low beams and high beams

Does your state require sep buttons/switches for fog lights?

Harness

Questions: Do you use both factory fog light harnesses to each aftermarket light, or one harness to both aftermarket lights?

Doesnt make any difference. The draw for the switching on/off of the relay is so low you could run a bunch of lights off the factory fog light system.

If you want to run the fogs anytime the lights are on then just do the fog relay mod.

Phew! Okay, thanks... I ran both pos ends of the factory to the relay, then out to both pos ends of the aftermarkets. I used the factory grounds with the aftermarkets...

no it doesnt and id rather not have another switch in my dash id like to just use the factory headlight switch to control the fogs as well but this wont cause an excessive load will it?

I assume you mean the pos end of the relay switch wire.

If you use a relay for your fog lights it will not cause an excessive load.

Not if you used the relay trigger wire connected to the existing circuit and the power to the battery or the main fuse block. It should add very little load to the existing circuit and minimal load to the charging system.

ok awesome thanks you guys helped me out alot

30

I assume you mean the pos end of the relay switch wire.

Pos ends of the factory harnesses go to 30 on the relay. Then the connector that goes on the relay has an extra tab... I used that tab to connect to the pos ends of the aftermarket fog lights... (the lights are on the floor still, not plugged in) This is wrong?
