Air Box cover thingy :-)

Ok I have a 91 X and I just repaced the MAFS and didn't put the piece back on that sorta covers the airbox and MAFS. My question is if this thing is really needed? Doesn't seem like it does anything to me and I noticed that many users with custom intakes don't have it anyway

not sure what piece you are talking about, there is a guard on the throttle body but to my knowledge not no the airbox and MAS

I must have an early production X cause I really do have it haha. I have check every pic online I could find and no other X has this guard. Oh well I guess that means I don't need it. Also my X has a throttle body guard that is twice as big as everyone elses and it says 4.0 EFI on it
