air con

Hi great solution to my other problem thanks .I now have a problem that my air con seems to be clicking on all the time even thow it is switched off i dont need it working in the uk not excatly tropical here,I have an owners manual but my fuse box plan in the book is nothing like the fuses in the engine bay.I only want to remove either the fuse or the relay but what is the postion of either of them thanks for any info ,4ltr auto 1999

i know it sounds weird, but the a/c system can turn on in any setting to remove moister. i have two 2001's and they both do it. my owner's manual says this will happen. if it bothers you you can unplug the a/c clutch or maybe remove a fuse for the winter, but it will impact your defrost efficiency.

Thanks for the reply i do want to disconect the con , but my problem is my fuse diagram is differant in the book to the layout in the engine bay.And i cant seem to find any pictures,My fuse positions are all the mege fuses are at one end then 2 rows of smaller fuses then the relays.So i have no idea wich fuse or relay to remove or shall i just pull the plug so to speak thanks again for any help

It's probably easier, and safer, to just disconnect the plug at the compressor clutch. In many case fuses control more than one system so you could disable something else you need by pulling a fuse.

You really should let the system run as designed. It will indeed help keep your windows clear in wet damp weather and by keeping the system active, the seals will last longer.

as others have said, the compressor is used to remove water from the compartment so the defogger works better.

ifs its not broken i wouldn't touch it.

easiest thing to do is just unplug the compressor.

When I have my switch turned to off or vent or floor the compressor does not turn on. You could try this instead of unpluging.

By applying pressure once in a while the seals stay sealed.
To "turn off" the compressor look for the accumulator bottle, it has the curled metal tube near it. Right next to this curled tube, on top of the bottle is a pressure switch. The compressor will not run with this circuit open--plug disconnected. It is easier to get to than the compressor plug.

Don't be surprised if the system leaks though when you go back to using it.

You could wire a switch in series with the pressure switch, and install the second switch in the cab. I bet if you ran it a little each day it would avoid leaks.
