Air Filter Upgrade

I want to put a better air filter into my Explorer and get rid of the paper one. I have used K&N air filters in several vehicles I have owned and like them but they have gotten expensive.

I have been doing some research and came across a similar air filter by Spectre but I don't now much about this company. Has anyone in these Forums use their products? What can be said about them good or bad? Thanks.

If you have any "Advance Auto Parts" stores near you, go to www.couponcabin.com and type in Advance Auto Parts into the search bar there and it will pull up online coupons you can use at the Advance Auto Parts web site. Use whatever coupon is relevant to your total order purchase price for the discounted savings. When I bought my K&N air filter thru the Advance web site nearly 3 years ago, the filter price was $56 and I used a $20 off coupon for an order totaling $50 or more and paid $36 +tax for it in the end. Place your order online and select to pick it up at the store nearest you as long as the part is I stock at that store. The Advance web site tells you if the part is in stock at that location.

Great idea Exproblems, AAP's coupon deals are hard to beat, wish they were here in Hawaii. RockAuto or Amazon have become my "go to" sources for price comparison shopping. I just "gave away" a K&N 33-2106 here for the cost of a USPS medium flat rate box. My filter of choice is now the "oil free" AFE Pro Dry-S since the Amsoil Eaa 122 has recently been discontinued. Phenomenal build quality, with great filtration and flow. Not cheap, but worth every cent. Search reviews.

I used Spectre Cone filter in my Lincoln LS, they are really of good quality for half the price of K&N. I think K&N is very overrated due to their marketing. Other than looking the engine bay look nice and a growl, there's no benefit on getting one (or spending that much)

Thanks for the air filter links "swshawaii", I saved it. Will look into the AFE brand in the future if I decide to change filters. Yeah, AAP's coupons have saved me a bunch of money since a friend told me about them a few years ago. I usually don't order parts by mail, since I have so many various auto parts stores in my area. I wouldn't mind ordering by mail like you do in Hawaii just for the break in the weather . The high temps for the next few days will be just above "0= zero"

I would agree with that. I haven't seen any MPG benefit by using a K&N air filter other than I don't need to buy another air filter. Just clean it once a year.
