I have a 2002 Explorer 4-Door XLS Sport. My Ex. had only 6000 miles on it and the air filter was BLACK. I said screw it and purchased a K&N panel filter. I have a feeling this problem goes beyond my Ex.

I inspected my tube and found no obstructions, so I am trying to help you all out, if purchasing a 2002.

When you get to the showroom to pick it up, pop the damn hood, put the rubber gasket on the bottom of the lid and put the K&N in.

Anyone else have this problem.

Don't most auto shops recommend you change your air filter everytime you change the oil? So that would mean roughly every 3,000 miles.

I change the oil every 5-6,000 miles. My gas mileage has improved significantly. On every single vehicle I have ever owned this was the soonest an air filter has been replaced. They usually recommend 7,500 or 10,000.

The Ford Maintenance Guide that came with my '97 recommends replacing the air-filter every 30K miles under both normal duty and severe duty. There is a disclaimer to change it more often in dusty conditions.

Magnetic, your link needs the S at the end of "filter" removed, so it is greenfilterusa.com.;) Did you get a stock replacement one or a conical one? Is it worth the money?
