Hi all,

After looking at my 02 4.6 V8... i was curious the KN air intake seems to be a waste of 200-300 or so dollars , i was thinking if i went to the auto store got a 40 dollar k/n filter, and got sheetmetal to mold the heat shield, would this be possible?...my concern is on ebay ive seen people sell the adapters to bolt onto the maf with a 3in circle welded onto the flat metal with the holes already drilled... Would it be possible to pick on of these adapters up somewhere?...it looks like a flag post that someone just cut the pipe off and drilled 4 holes into the metal... if so where would be a good place to look to fabricate one of thes adapters?..homedepot?.. Any help is greatly appreciated...

Regards,
Chris

I'd say buy a mac or kkm.
I have a kkm and I'm happy with it...
A lot of people like their mac's...
I don't know if they make for your specific truck though... I have an 01 x sprt

I got the KKM because I didn't think the pipe that comes with most of the intakes could make that much of a difference over stock when it comes to cool air or increasing HP, for that mater.

some people just buy the mac or air aid just to see some chrome under the hood...

i think borla is great if you have the $$$

have fun with whatever you get ;)

I bought one of THESE and really like it. $56 shipped. Its not a K&N but it does the job. The only issue I had with this was the company didnt leave me any feedback. But other than that.... Well I really like it. Here's a pic.

I paid $150 for a brand new (opened box) K&N FIPK2 for my 4.0/V6 and it was one of the best $150 I've spent. The quality is excellent and I'm really happy with it. Sure there are lower priced units which work as well and you can even do a DIY but I couldn't pass up the great deal (got it on ebay).

Chris:
I just cut the front of my air box, removed the cone from the back of the headlight and installed a k&n filter. The throttle reponse improved, the next mod will be flowmaster 70.

All I did was use some 1/8" thick aluminum and bent one piece kind of half circle and made little L- brackets to bolt a flat piece to it. As for the filter bracket that mounts to the maf, I had a 4" steel pipe and sectioned the middle out and welded it to make it a 3" 3/4" inch pipe. Then I welded it to a 1/8" thick steel plate I cut out to fit the maf and that was my flange. I also made an aluminum bracket to hold up the filter too. :)

Well aren't you just handy dandy!

that's the exact kit I just bought. I just tried to install it today in my 05EB and discovered that the MAF is molded into the airbox. what do I do now? the little filter bolt on flange has nothing to bolt onto if I hack my airbox up. I also will have no way to go back to stock if I come across a picky ford service writer. since I had the box apart anyway, I hacked off the snorkel, but I still want to install the cold air kit and make a box to seperate the filter from the rest of the engine compartment.

please help! is there a compatible maf that will bolt this all together or am I just missing something about this cold air kit?

I have a MAC intake for the 4.6 for sale (about 1 1/2 months old). $50. If you are interested email me

The 02-04 4.0L has a bolt on MAF sensor. Thats what the kit is made for. I dont know if you can convert it to that or not. You might have to buy a kit for the 05

Air Intake

I have 1993 XLT 4x4(4wd doesn't work) and I used the www.ifab.net air intake kit. It's a very good kit but the bracket they included wouldn't secure the filter to anywhere close. So I tied it down. My throttle and highway power DEFINATELY improved and I think my mileage went up a little aswell. I also have a series II flowmaster kit with 2.25" mandrel bent pipes and a 3 chamber 50 series.

guess I'll find out. bought a 01-04 maf on ebay for $20. I may just use my sensor to be safe, but everything should bolt together fine. I'll probably post pics next weekend.

As long as the plus match you "should" be ok.

Well I like to be handy dandy thank you very much. :hammer:

well, not good. the 04 maf is smaller than the 05 so the filter adapter doesnt bolt to the 04 maf. ill have to think of something else.
