Air Intake Mod

Just ordered the KKM for my 05. Now have to decide between local muffler shop for catback or kit.

Does anyone sell a MAFS for the 04 so that an 02-03 K&N kit can be used on it?

Go with the shop! I just got duals put on this morning... happy with them so far.

I am leaning towards shop. I have the 4.0L V6 and looking for performance more than noise. I have not researched mufflers at all.

KKM installed

Installed KKM intake last night. Easy. I like the fact I was able to re-use my stock hose to the throttle body. This did not add any loud air sucking noise, which for me is a good thing. Best way to describe the impact to performance is the gas pedal is touchier.

by touchier do you mean in a good way or bad?

Also, does it add any noise? intake or exhaust? I might buy one of their kits and the 02-03 K&N and merge them into one (???). I really like the way the K&N tubes look Vs. Stock. I also like the K&N heat shield

Mines home made haha, found some 3" abs layin around, a couple fittings and an 80mm (90 on one end) MAFS part thinger, threw a K&N filter on and i was good to go :D

Well with the 04+ you need a new MAFS body too...

atleast with the money you saved you can afford engine degreaser 8-)

Blitzk,
Good touchier. Throttle a tad quicker to respond.
No it did not add any noise. Maybe due to reusing stock rubber intake rather than a pipe.

There is another link around here I thought it was in Modified Explorers 95-01 about Air Box Modifications. One fellow used a PVC water closet flange to modify his K&N they had lots of pictures.

Custom, cold air intake 90mm Lightning MAF attached to stock box with K&N filter. 4'' tube running down to the botom of the front bumper with a 90 degree embow facing the bottom grill with drilled holes to catch cold air. Adding a longer extension so it reaches the grill almost completely.

Race days just pop out the front passanger light and get a direct shot of cold air directly into air filter box.

You can see on pic 1 and 2 the tube running down from the bottom of the box.

Pic 3 is where the 90 degree elbow connects to the tube and takes in the cold air coming in from the cut out bottom grill holes. Thats an upside down pic.

Last pic is the grill drilled out, right behind that is the elbow. Talk about a HARD job drilling all those holes. The only one that got buggered was on the upper deck bottom row right side.

Drag nights this light will come out. Direct shot of fresh cold air.

Oh yeahh... thanks

I have an 03 4.0l v6 exploere... i was thinking about geting a intake system. for thoes who already have it done, do you find a big difference with it??? i am looking at a K&N kit which comes with a plate thats bent to keep engine heat away from filter it costs $370..... i am also installing true dual exhaust 40 flomasters can you remover the cat or does that cause trouble? i know the engine light comes on and runs worse in some f150

I just ordered the KMM intake... I'll probably buy the K&N and try to mate the 2 up.

You have a "pre-04" MAF so I'd get the K&N FIPK if I was you!

Got the KMM installed... Great improvement? no... noticeable? probably, yeah...

Now I'm going to order the K&N kit and try to make the 2 work... heh

get an exhaust and you wont be saying that theres no improovement.
