Hi. Next summer I will cut a hole in the hood to get a ram air out of it. I want to remove the big rubber hose that take the air from the air filter box to the intake. remove the air box itself and juste put an adaptor directly on the intake and put back a cone air filter on it go get air direct from the hood outside but i will have to put back the MAF or bypass it with a small resistance. Does anyone have the resistances of the MAF at somes temperatures so i can get the good small resistance to bypass de maf plug. because the maf wont be here anymore

Thank you...btw its a 4 ohv 1992 explorer

You are not going to get much of a ram effect on a gen. I explorer. The existing intake point, behind the passenger headlight, works well for a cold air intake. The stock intake can be improved. If you intend to cut a hole in the hood, do it to let heat out. Use luvers.

I run my X without the tube at all and a K & N filter. IMO the stock intake is a little better but it sucks water in and hydrolocking the motor sucks.

thats my point ti get no water in it and also tu get fresh air because where i go in summer its 86 km sand and dirt road so i must clean my air filter everytime i go there to come back so i would get less dirt from under the truck. Can you post a picture of your intake so i can see exactly how you did it

All i did was to yank the tube at the air box and remove it. If you are that type of dusty environment, get a KKM cone filter with a prefilter.

but the maf will send a wrong information so maybe the truck will run like crap...what you did with the maf ?

You can't bypass the MAF....It measures airflow in real time to allow the computer to calculate the correct A/F mixture. You need to keep it in there somewhere, it wont run right or pass inspection, not to mention it will suck gas like crazy.

Are you aware locating it on the hood isnt really a solution to either of those problems?

As said, look for a KN filter with a pre-wrap.

Anyone tried locating the filter to the other side of the engine bay where there's more room and more air coming in the grill...vs being hid behind the battery on the stock set up.

It has no real significant advantage -- test show you have to be going ridiculous speed (something like over 120 or so MPH) for that to actually be a worthwhile modification.

never thought of that pugsy. I think I'll try that when I get around to it.
