come on guys. someone must know...i hear people describing it in different ways, making it sound like two different things. so can anyone tell me?

I will try. I think "air silencer" is a term that is used and not the actual name of the part. Two things discussed on this BB. First, the baffle, it is ususally located next to the passenger side headlight on the outside of the wall that holds the radiator, it's function is to prevent water, mud leaves from entering the air intake tube that goes to the air cleaner box - it looks like a thin box with a slight taper. Second, is the air intake tube that goes from the inside of the radiator wall to the air box, many people with the conical air filters appear to have removed this setup for more air flow, I believe 95-97 had conical air filter housing standard. Removing the tubing/box has a few issues, one is smog - depending on state, the other is it removes the warm air to the engine on startup - which might effect your cold start idle - prob higher idle longer until engine is warm

Should be where the air enters the air filter box. It's designed to smooth out the sound of the air entering the box. Dunno what yours might look like. Different years have different shapes. On my '01, it's in the front of the airbox.

thanks alot guys. info was very helpful. that sucker is outta my X. thanks again. :)

what did this do for you?
sound diffrence? better air flow?

it will provide more airflow... however all mods are subjective.... more air means more intake hum and so forth.... want it quiet, leave it in....

like it better without. little deeper sound.
