I was thinking on planning on doing the airbox mod, but I also want to go back and put in a KKM or K&N CAI. If I do the airbox mod, will I be able to do this at a later time when I have the time/money, or will the mod affect that at all. Theoretically, I don't see how the airbox mod will affect it, but I wanted to check before I went and drilled out something like that.

If you are just drilling the front of the box like most do, you'll be fine. The KKM kit will make you get rid of the box altogether, the K&N kit will replace everything unless you are using a flat filter, or upgrading to a conical and therefore will end up kinda like the KKM kit.

In short, your fine:D

As Limited said, you'll be fine...

If I were you i would just save the extra cash for the full intake. this way you get dyno proven performance, and a quality part... then once it's done then you dont have to mod the intake again at all...

Alright, thanks guys. Caldwell, I thought you said on the other thread that it was not yet dyno proven? Oh well, good thing I read this post because I was going to go test mine this weekend! I just did the mod, took me about 45 mins because I had to identify the resonator, and then stupidly I unscrewed the top of the box from the MAF and then dropped one of the screws in the engine bay. After I did the mod, though, I took my car out and really drove it. I definitely felt an increase in hp, although, I didn't note much change in the sound, minus the slight hiss/sigh from the box. Oh well, though, I plan on getting a flowmaster system soon! Oh and when I got back from my test run, I realized that I had left the pieces to the resonator on top of the truck, but no damage was done when I tracked them back down. Thanks for the mod guys! Also, I didn't do the typical drill, I cut boxes with an air saw and plan to go back with aluminum mesh and rivets as one of the posters on another thread did.

yea the airbox mod, isnt dyno proven, but you can feel the little bit of extra go on the bottom end. the sound isnt like holy wow thats loud, but it is louder then stock.

dont forget to disconnect the battery, and let it idle for a few minutes, cause by doing the mod, you will alter your air/fuel ratio. disconnecting the battery will reset the pcm, and the pcm will " relearn " an compensate for more air...

again not dyno proven but for a cheap to free mod. its not bad at all...

i agree 100% with caldwell. sounds a little louder (better) and you can feel a power increase at the bottom end

OK thanks for all of your help, guys, on the way home I "let er rip" and then I could really feel the extra hp and started to hear the difference. Now I have become addicted to performance mods. Needless to say I am really happy with the airbox mod and it's results.
Thanks again,
kstrayhorn

its a fun cheap / free mod :D

Is there a how to for this mod?

yes, there is somewhere, It really doesn't need one though. Just find the airbox and drill holes in it below the drop-in filter.

search ( 3rd Gen Airbox Mod )...
